It looked to me like the center piece that looks like a screw was upside down and the seal was in the wrong location.

Even though I have pressure I will pull it apart and turn the seal on the piston around. Mechanically the order is correct but after y’all’s comments and staring at the diagram I would agree that the piston seal is backwards. I will also photo shoot the parts a little better for someone in the future to follow. After I watch F1 quali.

Just so there is zero ambiguity or confusion, this is a 2K mile rear Honda master that has never been opened up before...

Here is what I have. This should be the correct orientation for the NC30 rear caliper MC.

    Agreed.

That does not match the only other picture you have provided.

GFC on a popsicle stick that was a pain! I have some pressure, but not a whole lot. Probably need new little master seals. I don’t think when I picked up this bike the brake was working at all, sooooo booo

Let er sit. Tap the lines. If you can crack the banjo bolts and slightly bleed thru them without one of the world's worst liquids getting on something you like, might be good.

But at least you know any issues won't be from the assemble order. Good job.

I wouldn't even dick with it. The entire MC can be purchased for $78 + shipping from CMSNL. I disassembled my new one and had the body vapor blasted, then reassembled it. Added a Goodridge pressure switch banjo bolt and utilized a re-pinned original harness plug. Brake feel is something I am very picky about.

I even went so far as to have a a longer clevis cnc'd so that I could get the brake lever in the exact spot I wanted and added a Woodcraft return spring kit.

Go look at how much the rebuild kit costs. Sure you could go and spend hours rubbing on it in your garage to show it off to your friends at your next garage tour, but who's got time for that shit. I saved my original, hoping that down the road maybe somebody like you would come along and pay a premium when they are no longer available.

Rebuild kits inbound. Thankfully Honda has used this same set from 1983-2016. eBay + free shipping, $80 shipped. I ordered two sets in case I come across this issue again.
Reinforced the tabs that the previous genius broke off of the rear section with 1/8” aluminum , rivets, and DP100 white epoxy. Overall it should work since the seat mainly uses the subframe rails for support. Worst seat design ever from Honda. Also found this Ducati (shhh, not vfr), clutch cover in a garage sale for a $1. Bought it 3 years ago before I even owned a Ducati. It was too blingy anodized gold so I painted it satin black with a clear VHT and left the fins and inside gold. Not bad for a dollar. 279F36D1-89B3-4688-BDE5-A4312FBEE8F0.jpeg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Throw a dab of white touch up on that one rivet and it will pretty much disappear.

Nice treatment for the clutch cover. Lovin the Duc!

NC35 is marginally better...but only marginally. 80's Honda seems to have massively over-engineered some things and then just not bothered to think other bits beyond looking good in the showroom.

RC24 tail is a case in point. Massive heavy tail light held only by the plastic of the tail. 99% of the tail pieces out there are cracked now.

Back to the 400. So I haven’t seen the “position light” or “ running light” in Merca speak, work since forever ago. While waiting on parts I thought I would tackle the issue.
Couldn’t find anything up front in the harness.
IGN fuse was blown, no idea why. Replaced that. Bike turns over. Very odd find.
Like a good little soldier I traced the wiring in the front to find they are linked with the tail lights.
Ok, what’s with the tail lights, they worked before. I don’t know if this is the issue, but it look perfect. JFC…my new fav.
