    1. Yes

    2. The linkage throw can be adjusted using the piece with the lock screw on the rod. Adjust them so they are just ready to contact and pull the plunger but still have some play. On some bikes, even if you have them adjusted to start together, some won't pull out the same / as much as the others. That's OK. As long as a couple want to pull out a good amount, it will be enough "enrichening" to easily start the bike. They have nothing to do with synching or idling when warmed up. Just make sure you check them a few times after adjusting to make sure they close all the way and still have a bit of slack / lash.

Is adjustment made then by the amount of bend in the rod(s)? I don't see any other way to adjust them.

Will probably not mess with this....looks like there's no harm done leaving them alone.

    Thanks!

    Couple more questions.....

In both the HSM and Clymer it talks about this jet coming out (brown one in center of photo). How does one remove it? Pliers? Looks like it has some teeth marks on it - maybe from previous plier application?

    IMG_4632.JPG

Also.....the HSM talks about different pilot jets for carbs 1 and 3 (thinner with shorter springs). All the pilots & springs that came out were the same as is the ones in the kits. No big deal?

Pic showing new jets at bottom and one in the center of all the old jets at top.......

OK I see what you're saying now.

    SCREWS vs JETS.

    I stand corrected.

Got everything put back together and will re-install in the morning.

    Stay tuned.......

    HOLD ON.

There is some mixing of terms here and TotaledTL cleared most of it up... But...

The early VFs have different DIAPHRAGM springs front and rear. And some of them have different emulsion tubes (main jet holders) front and rear.

And DO NOT try and remove the pressed in jets no matter what a service manual says. It will end in sadness with no remedy. Clean, poke, spray, blow. Flip a light switch and twist your friends nipples 3 times. Whatever. Just don't try and remove.

Yes, and on the '86 500 at least, main jet sizes differ depending if front cyl. bank or rear cyl. bank. I found the serv. man. has different information re: these jet sizes vs. a current parts diagram online. This may or may not apply to your bike so make certain while you have them apart.

Yeah, the 500 Honda SM has a few errors.

Yeah, I wonder though, if in the case of the jets it is a revision that came about after the serv. manuals were published.

If it was, they didn't bother to fix or update anything when they revised and re-released for the 85 and 86 model years, both of which had quite a few changes.

They also have the numbering of the carbs wrong in the synch section. That's not a "revision".

Not the only SM with errors.

I meant a post '86 revision, not pre.
And yes, I'm aware there are errors in those manuals.

I might be a little confused. Why would there be a post '86 revision?

Oh well. Doesn't really matter. As long as everybody is aware to be diligent and attentive when disassembling and try and use multiple sources for the correct info.

    Cheers dude!

Because of this passage that I saved from researching the '86 VF500F carbs:

"My '86 has #95 fronts and #92 rears. It is NOT a Cali model, so go figure.

From my research, these appear to actually be the correct jets for the 1986 VF500F (non-CA). The original Honda Service Manual is wrong, but I have checked the updated fiche, and it matches these sizes (as do the jets on my mostly unmolested 1986)
    ."

I thought we were talking about SM revisions, not fiche revisions.

    Got it! Thanks!

Revision of the jet sizes. Because the manuals would have already been printed, I would presume only Honda dealers would have rec'd any subsequent serv. man. revisions, leaving the manuals owned by independent shops and individuals not updated.
Mostly a theory but it makes sense to me.
    Happy Friday.
