Sorry about that. Never did I think I would have another chance to get this bike but like Jack McCoy says....."Life's a funny old dog!"

Regarding the paint redo......the seller said he made the decision to re-paint because it had already been re-painted and it wasn't a very good job. He paints for a living so it was a no-brainer for him to re-do the paint. He was going to restore it to the original paint scheme. Can't really fault him for that, I guess.

Just hate to see the graphics all gone now. I'll try to get replacements from the fella in Malta. I've already been taking measurements to get the right ones.

    Stay tuned.....no pun intended...;)

Just to be clear... I was calling myself a dork.

But to not see that a VF1000F tank is clearly not gonna work was a pretty big oversight on his part.

Gotcha. Was still a little confusing though to anyone following.

On the tank.....I didn't say anything to him about it but i think the tank I used on my Euro RC15 that I had bought off eBay came off a VF1000F.....here's one of the eBay pics....

    ftank3.jpg

    And after installation......

    IMG_3866.JPG

The photo from the seller with his tank (that didn't fit) sitting on the donor bike.....one he picked up at a yard sale he didn't think was worth restoring.....

    1000tank.jpg

And this is the other tank I scored on eBay I'm hoping will work on this bike.....

There's a pretty big tell on a 1984 VF1000F tank that it's not the same...

    Yours sure looks like a mis-marked 1985 VF700F tank.

So the one I scored from eBay was mislabled and not really from a VF1000R?

All I know is by looking at the listing photos it sure looked like it would fit on one of my RC15's and at that price I grabbed it! Then saw the second one and grabbed it too! Frikkin' unicorn listings! ;)

So the seller was correct on his tank not matching up - OK makes sense.

He has had experience in restoring a few Hondas so makes sense.....

We see mislabled Interceptor parts all the time so I'm used to it. Sometimes it gives buyers an advantage......

OK got her up on my table.

Started the work with removing the coil packs and then noticed the clear fuel tubing wasn't firmly seated onto the fuel pipe nipple. I mean it literally came loose when I touched it. The clamp wasn't on it - pushed up the tube a bit.

I'm going to reattach a proper fuel line and try running it again and see if there's any leaks and if it runs better.

It's entirely possible and even probable that it still needs a carb. service...and I'm prepared to do so. Just going through the motions at this point....

Some info on the tires. They are Kenda Challengers.

According to the date code (2420) they were manufactured in June of 2020.

These insulator clamps don't look like they are as tightened down as the ones I have done either. Maybe it's a smaller clamp. Another thing to look at......

Looks like a bolt you'd use on a battery clamp........:)

Does she always hang out with you in the garage? Probably doesn't nag you much either.
