I recently purchased a 2010 VFR 1200F, and after a while and doing some maintenance, And then ridding down to the DMV the "check engine light came on. It flashes 3 times slowly and then 3 times quickly. Does anyone know what that means? I am scheduled to take it to my Honda dealer on Thursday! But that 5 days away and want to ride it, but don't want to do damage to the bike!

ANY help would be Greatly appreciated!!

PS, I have a Honda Service Manual, but there is nothing in there for this.

The manual shows 3 long = 30, +3 short = 33. But there's no code shown in the manual for that. Probably best to clear the fault memory and see if it returns.

Firstly - Are you absolutely sure it was the Engine Fault MIL? Or was it the ABS Fault Check light??
While riding, if there was an engine Fault Code detected it will Turn On the Engine Fault MIL but NOT flash a code until stationary with the Sidestand Down.

Secondly - The ABS System Fault Codes does have a code 33 = Solenoid Valve Malfunction. And from what I read, if a fault is detected with the ABS it will flash the code while riding, unlike an Engine Fault Code.

The most important thing with any VFR1200 ABS issue is to firstly make sure your battery is well charged and healthy, terminals are clean and tight, it's critical for reliable ABS function.

But its definitely the "Check engine light", not the ABS light

    - Is it still flashing the code? And only with the Sidestand down?
    - Do you experience any adverse effects with the bike when the code is active?
    - Have you reviewed what work you did on the bike that may have caused it?
    - Have you confirmed battery and charging system as mentioned?
    - Have you cleared the history codes and retried?
    - What work did you do? What work have you done so far to investigate the issue?

    More info might help!

I'm a pretty good mechanic but not so good in the electrical dept.
Charging is good. not sure how to clear codes, unplugged the battery for over 24 hrs.
Got a code reader but still trying to figure out how to use it! LOL!

Thanks you for the information. Yes I found it but don't understand it. Took it into the shop today and they said that the valve for the secondary exhaust pipe was installed backwards!!! Now I have FULL power and it doesn't overheat like it did before. As this bike is new to me when they asked,
"is there a drop in power?", I would reply, "I don't know, I've never ridden this bike before"

    Thanks again for your help!!
