His idea of "excellent" and mine are very different.

    Agree … but remember

“Great condition for a 35 year old motorcycle “

That’s another catch comment when something isn’t quite right

"and a few very minor paint blemishes that are hardly noticeable that are expected for a 40 y.o. Bike."

    Bullshit.

    Not "condition: excellent"

another antique. for that kinda money someone could buy a nice gen four, a safer better bike in dozens of ways.

riding an '86/'87 700 is all rough and rowdy compared to a gen4, which is so much more refined and smooth kinda like a honda civic. a gen4, unlike older bikes, feels like its made of ONE PIECE, not a bunch of different parts trying to work together.

i want a safer bike with modern wheels and the best tires i can get. antiques are beautiful sitting in the shop not as safe or refined as newer models to ride IMO. old bikes, newer ones too, do make fine companions in your shop while youre hangin oot no matter how superannuated or obsolete.

I seriously doubt anyone with a brain would pay him his price … Gen 4 is nice but a well tuned VF1000f is magic on the road … just because it’s old doesn’t mean it sucks. Hell … non of us are spring chickens.

Old Junk. But if that old junk sings to you, money really isn't the object.

Money is the object .. I am not going to give some nut job extra cash because he thinks it’s worth it. I enjoy working and getting these old bikes back on the road.

Maybe old but doesn’t mean they are not fun. As you can see on auction sites … I am not alone in this camp. Heck , I have made a pretty penny selling some of my old bikes.

I'll be back in a bit. Gotta head down to the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union and tell a bunch of idiots their boats are dumb and old and just rot. Why do they even talk about them with each other? I'll enlighten them and feel good doing it. Maybe there's some dogs running around I can kick too.

Which generations are going up in appreciation....and which are going down?

As a long time Porsche owner/enthusiast.......the early 911's...... not as "well engineered" as the newer (post '95) cars....have appreciated like crazy!

Not exactly an "apples to apples" situation but the concept is the same.

    No?

Just took another look. Not a bad looking bike overall. VERY NICE windscreen! :)

I'm not as much of an expert as most of those on here but I've often felt having a complete set of fairings in decent condition (like this one has) adds about $1K to the value of a bike.

When looking at CL bikes, always download the pictures. Then you can actually zoom in with some detail.

The bike is not "excellent" and is not anything near a $5K bike. It looks like it sat outside in the sun and some rain.

But it is complete and original.

hey, if that bike ran ok and was priced below $2000 it would look like a great deal to me, but i dont have the shop space i want to store bikes and must be selective ;)

That is a CRACK in the right upper cowl. And likely why there's a huge gap between the tank and cowl... the upper cowl stay is bent.

Why is there a hose clamp around the frame near the shifter. Which is upside down... apparently somebody thinks they are an AMA Superbike rider and needs to stomp some upshifts.

The decals and clear coat is peeling all over.

Why would you even consider an antique like that at ANY price? It's old and stupid junk.
