I'm not buying full price gixxers. But that rear 3/4 shot is awesome.

actually I would love to own one but that riding position would not agree with me. The reason I sold my RC51 a few years ago.... Loved that bike but man... I paid the price after 100 miles on it. I usually take long rides ( 200 - 300 miles )
But yes....Its an awesome bike. You never know if one might just "follow" me home. just sayin

The RC51 is kinda brutal. The other problem I found is that the harder and faster you ride it, the better and more comfortable it gets.

+3 on the RC51 pain level. Too much for me. I only put 300 miles on it and walked away. A little sad cause I always wanted one, but I at least it was on my list of owned and rode. :) My rides are about 50 miles typically and mostly upright. Our back roads have turned to unreliable crap. gravel, priuses, and ground shifted asphalt.

I sold both my RC51's in 2020, and regret it. I had an SP1 and an SP2. Very uncomfortable but jeez what a bike!

Finally getting started on this "junk yard Slabbie". Its taking a while to disassemble, as I'm soaking the crap out of all the fasteners with penetrating oils before I tackle each part.

still haven't cracked the engine open yet so no idea what ill find in there.

Stupid Suzuki engineers, who builds a bike where you cant get the airbox out unless the engine is removed !! Seriously ! its captive.

That air box won’t come out? Is it bolted in as well? I have found bolts in the weirdest places.

I think he means there is no way to manipulate / rotate it to clear the frame and engine and slide out. It's a Suzuki... I wouldn't be surprised.

That is basically what I thought, but why would any manufacturer do this? Must be why you see gixxers with pods or other small types of airboxs?

It's not the engineer's problem. The high volume air box CAN be replaced. Just follow the steps listed in the GSXR Service Manual after Engine Removal.

On a Honda, you might have some bloody knuckles and high blood pressure, but it would be out on the bench with the engine intact.

That actually reminds me of a conversation I had with my wife about working on Honda bikes. I get tempted by other brand bikes, and then I come to my senses. Yamaha is my second favorite when it comes to design and quality. Kawasaki is my least favorite Japanese brand.
I haven't dealt with Ducati. My Aprilia is easy so far, but fragile. Seems like everything is beautiful, but sensitive to wear and torque.

Right guys, its unbolted and loose but it cannot be removed unless the engine comes out. Its a known grievance with the early GSXR's. you want it out, you remove the engine or use a Sawz-all. and im not taking a saws-all to an OEM airbox . Pod's would be more convenient.

So, it is dumb, but with long service intervals...do you really ride it enough to care?

On an old bike where the plastic is brittle, if one cracked or deformed badly and I had a good replacement... think I would care all of a sudden. A lot.

The filter is easily removed. Carb removal is a HUGE PITA with it in place but doable.

Its not going to be a huge deal one way or the other, I just find it bizarre that they built it like that

Don't get me wrong Stray, I do find the slab sides very appealing. Especially that Skoal Bandit gixxer or an all black version..hell yeah! Shoot, I already have the tank top and sandals. Currently I might be able to ride to lunch in those very same tops and sandals. So nice out today, you know while I am at work.
