Hey everyone, I acquired an 87 VFR700 yesterday and I'm going down the laundry list that this bike needs to be road worthy.

One of the items I need to replace is the seal that goes in between the gas cap and tank as the cap will not close and I've been unsuccessful in my search of the googles to find the gasket sold separately. I obviously could buy a used gas cap but I didn't know if there was a part number or alternate gasket that people were using since I imagine the OEM one is no longer available.

I searched the forums (admittedly briefly) before posting, but I didn't see anything really related to this topic.

I have never heard of, or come across, a gas cap that won't close because of the old gasket.

But to answer your question, the seal/gasket was never offered separately. I have seen people buy the cheap Chinese copy of that style gas cap and extract the gasket to use on the original cap.

I can get some pics tomorrow night, I can't get it "down enough" I guess? I'm relatively new to motorcycles but I have another buddy coming over who has more knowledge related to these bikes (he's a magna guy) so I'll grab his opinion as well.
