    Hi Viffers,

I have a lovely green 1993 VFR750FP-Naked and the left hand rear side plastic fairing part is unfortunately cracked. What’s the best way to fix it, strength-wise? I have some touch-up paint to cover up any blemishes.

I just did a repair like this, remove the side panel, dremel the area just to rough it up and vee it out a little, have your melted Legos with MEK and your golden. Your repair will not be noticeable from the outside of the side panel. Good luck

I have had good results with Plastex repairs, or the two-part Permatex plastic weld epoxy works very well on ABS parts like fairings.

Your plastics are ABS plastic. The same as what is used in plumbing . The black drain pipes are ABS plastic as well. The glues sold in the stores for this, work by melting the two pieces together which makes the two pieces, one. I would try to separate the cracks a little bit, then using a semi stiff small brush, work a little ABS glue into the crack. Then some how force the two edges together until the glue sets. Quickly wipe off the excess glue on the show side of the panels.

If you are concerned that the glue may not hold, buy yourself a small piece of ABS plastic from the plumbing supply source. Heat it up with a heat gun to make it plyable, and form it as best you can to fit the inside surface of the project. Then using the ABS glue, put the patch on the inside for additional strength. Or you can buy a small length of ABS black pipe to cut and make a patch. You can make shavings from the black ABS fixtures or pipe pieces then mix in a little ABS glue and make a paste to fill in any voids. The glue welds the two ABS pieces together. Then evaporates leaving the ABS plastic cured and hard, looking pretty much the way you spread it.
