I have a '93 VFR750FP. Has anyone changed the heat-shield by the right footrest? I'm interested in the work required as mine is in poor shape and rusted.

I sand blasted mine and painted it with high heat black. You can add a reflective heat panel on the inside if you want.

Sure, thanks Captain 8Os, but what was involved in getting it off and on again? How far down do you have to strip?

Pull the right footpeg bracket off, shield held on by a couple bolts.

Unless you're talking about the one you see thru the frame.

Take it off and refinish it or use it for a pattern to make another one. I've found used ones are expensive and still pretty damn ugly, so I opted to sand blast mine. Plus I ended up liking the black much better as it becomes less visible and kinda disappears back there.

I have powder coated mine. Was a little rusty. Looks pretty good now and hanging good with the heat.
