I just checked the supplier I use for my orings and they carry them as well. Thanks for the nudge. I found such a good deal on the Honda ones I didn't bother looking that hard I guess.

Such a nice looking restore so far. Really excited to see the finished product. Thanks for the play by play.

No affiliation nor experience with that shop.
Most O-ring suppliers also carry X-rings. Not all will deal with non-corporate customers and sometimes have a discouraging minimum order size.

I assume that the etching primer solves the problem of wetting the surface of the aluminum alloy and allowing a better adhesion.

Well, I'm in the U.S. so I wouldn't be ordering from them anyway. And like I said, the place that I get my orings from has them too, I just didn't look before. They are great with little to zero minimum qty's, fast turn around and very reasonable shipping cost. They have a large selection of quality oil/dust seals too.

Yep, some corrosion/oxidation protection and helps with adhesion. I don't sand blast everything and try to wet sand original finishes to paint over when possible, but this bike had some pretty heavy corrosion on some pieces.

Now delivering fuel from the tank and pump. Charging system working @ 13.9 to 14.2 with both original R/R and a newer version 97. Fine for some test rides until I wire in the FH020AA.

The brakes and clutch are all bled too. Now I really need to work on the bodywork, no excuses.

would be interested in hearing a sound clip of the bike running with the TX built slip on. I love my granite blue bike, not black, does look different than the pearl white one I got. Peace

can you believe some poor Japanese engineer/designer ok'd that rubber urinal fuel catch under the petrol tank? I axed mine along with the pre-filter thing. Got rideof the PAR stuff too. I kept the urinal things as a tribute to someone who might have had some sort of nasty bathroom fetish:toiletclaw:

It's actually pretty nice if you're taking the tank on and off. And nothing in the vent filter (it crumbled away), just something to attach to that points down.

    Test Ride!!

    PXL_20230918_001817809.jpg

    Fingerprints! Goddam.

    PXL_20230918_001902256.jpg

Well, the thing runs fucking perfect. Starts and idles nicely. Pulls strong, no clutch slip. Brakes bedded in nicely and are strong and steady. It feels like it's been my dialed in VFR right off the bat. I guess I have another RC36 now.

This is a great survivor / rescue. I had to paint the lowers and the shields behind the foot controls satin black (and a little repair), too far gone. Brand new Honda mirrors from my 95. There's lots of little scratches and marks, but for original black body work, it looks amazing. Lots of orbital and hand polishing.

Crankcase covers will be coming off this winter for refinishing. You can see too much of them even with the bodywork on. Rear turn signals are also running lights. Chain guard is next. It's finally clean, need to remove the stickers (fun) and give a satin or matte finish.

Very happy. That was a long week and weekend for a final push to take a ride. Probably 20 miles? Long enough for a first ride. Needs a battery, the loaner from the "questionable" selection is no longer a question. Charging system is fine 13.6 - 14.2. I also replaced the connector on the starter solenoid just in time.

Amazing dude! Although you are unforgiven on the finger prints. That was quite the rebuild. That starter solenoid cable looks familiar. hahaha

Glad you got it out before winter!!

    Purchase price: -500

    Works shock sold: +300
    Helibars sold: +200

    1997 Forks and Triples: -300
Custom D&D slip on (parts): -120
Solo cowl and pad (friend deal): -100
    Lower cowls: -80
Brake calipers FR & RR: -80
    1992 shock: -75
    Custom Graphics: -40
    Tapered stem bearings: -30
    Stainless clutch line (used): -20

    "Free":
Stainless lines FR and RR (free from the 1990 VFR flip bike)
97 Bars (from parts stock - kinda free, had them forever)
Tires (decent Pilots from 90 flip)
Brake pads FR and RR (came on bike like new)
Chain and Sprockets (came on bike like new)
Mirrors (came with my 95 VFR)
Race Tech springs (from 90 flip)
Fox Twin Clicker (from 90 flip - Install next spring after service)

With o-rings, chemicals, paint and I'm sure a couple little misc items, let's say: $1000 (paid from the 1990 flip profit)
Labor: Plenty of hours between the 2 bikes - But I still have money left over from the 90 flip.

Still have the 1990 Rear Wheel from the 90 flip, the reason I bought it in the first place for $400. Plus I still have the nice 1990 Fuel Tank.

So I got paid to work on essentially a "free" VFR.
