I lost my keys to the '85 VF700F. Literally in a few steps. I grabbed three sets of keys, two to start the Hondas and one for the Yamaha to work on. I have looked everywhere several times. Naturally no copy. Meant to do that...
Of course there are no oem sets for the ignition, tank and seat available. I can get some hokey universal ignition, and maybe something for the seat.
I have never been in this situation. What can I do?
How does one pick the tank and seat to get started on replacing them?
    What a mess...

Bring the ignition cylinder to a locksmith

Or the helmet lock may have a code for the key.

The ignition switch has the key # stamped in it. Usually it's in a place not visible when still mounted. Then just get a new key made. You can also remove the helmet lock, but will have to extract the break away bolts, which is not hard.

Then write the f-ing number(s) down.

If you did not find them, you did not look everywhere. Keep looking instead.

I usually leave them in my permanent work pants on accident and don't find them until the next weekend. I am so unreliable that I trust I will find them in there. lol

Thanks All. I have crawled on the garage floor, looked in the bushes between house & garage...everywhere.
Of course I'll keep looking, but I now know what to do. Going out now to check out the cylinder. I had 2 keys- one was for the ignition and I think the gas tank. The second key fit the seat. I think.

Well, I bit the big weenie and had 2 sets of keys made. I followed your all's directions and removed the ignition tumbler and the seat tumbler. Again, mine had two separate keys, so...The locksmith was nice and cut me a deal, but still expensive enough to teach me a lesson, I guess. I have one more set of keys to duplicate and I'll be set.
Thanks very much for the help!

on all my hondas (6 running) the key code # is stamped somewhere on the cylinder, and ordering keys online is ez and efficient.
