This is a 2002 Honda VFR800 Interceptor. I am the second owner and bought it off the original owner in 2007. When I bought it, it had 4,6XX miles on the odometer. I am selling it because I bought another motorcycle in early 2020 and I don’t need two motorcycles. I am selling it for $2,000 because that’s approximately how much I have spent on it since September 2020. I want to recoup what I’ve put into it. I am not desperate for money.

The bike has a fender eliminator kit and clear turn signal lenses (front & rear) from a later model year. I replaced the black wheels with silver ones that also came from a later model year. The windshield and front fender were professionally cut for more of a supersport look. I still have the passenger footpegs and chainguard and they will be included. I no longer have the passenger grab rails.

The bike was tipped over once (on its left). I also went down on it twice at low speeds. This is why the bike is cosmetically challenged. Also, the upper cowl is Winning Red while the rest of the bike is Italian Red. Someone with decent wrap skills can fix this by wrapping the whole bike.

When this was my primary bike, I always used fuel stabilizer over the winter months. Since early 2020 (when it became my secondary bike), I have used fuel stabilizer with fresh fuel once a year on it. I’ve ridden the bike a little bit these past three years but not much. There is no rust in the fuel tank and, to this day, the bike starts right up and rides just fine.

The 6th generation VFR was always known to have issues with the CCTs (cam chain tensioners). When this bike reached about 75,000 miles is when I started hearing what I believe to be “chain slap” coming from the engine. The consensus on VFRdiscussoin.com was that if the noise doesn’t bother you, don’t worry about it (and since the noise never bothered me, I never replaced the CCTs).

On a final note, the valves have never been adjusted. This bike has a complex valvetrain known as the VTEC (Valve Timing Electronically Controlled) system. As such, valve adjustment jobs are expensive. When forum members on VFRdiscussion.com paid for the service, every one of them said they were told by the dealership that everything was in spec (and because of this, a lot of people on the forum never got their valves adjusted and never reported any problems. I’m one of them.) The consensus was that it wasn’t needed and Honda used it as a way for their dealerships to make more money.

You are welcome to ride the bike around the block a time or two and bring a mechanic to check it out. On a final note (not that anyone cares or that it matters) but Billy Idol once sat on this motorcycle.

    Recent maintenance:

    02/13/2023 88,453 replaced air filter.

12/13/2022 88,435 replaced the battery, stator, and R/R.

    02/07/2022 88,311 cooling system flushed.

02/08/2022 88,289 new brake pads and brake and clutch fluid flushed.

09/02/2020 88,104 new tires, new chain, and oil change.

I haven't replaced the spark plugs because they've only got 21k miles on them. Also, the forks were professionally rebuilt in 2014.

Lovely detail in the ad - I'm also surprised you "only" spent $2k haha.

I'm in the area, if I didn't have my 5th gen I'd totally pick this up!

I posted the ad I would want to see. I don't want anybody coming back to me saying I ripped them off.

I did the oil change, brake pads, and air filter myself. I had a friend flush the cooling system and brake/clutch fluid. I bought the tires on sale. I had the stator and R/R replaced at a reputable local shop as opposed to a dealership. The chain was replaced at the same dealership that put the tires on.

Hahaha...I care...Billy Idol was probably my favorite artist of the 80's!

The story behind that is I was the guest of someone that was invited to a dinner party in New York (I don't recall the name of the place but I remember it was on Bowery). My bike was parked outside directly in front of the restaurant. One of Billy's bandmates and I were outside talking (where he could smoke a cigarette). After about 20 minutes of talking, Billy came outside to ask him something. As he walked towards us, he asked me if the bike was mine. I said yes. He then asked if he could sit on it. I said yes. He must have known it was mine because I was wearing a Honda Racing hat and an Alpinestars shirt. After Billy and his bandmate were done talking, he went back inside without saying another word to me. Later on when I was back inside, I saw him several times but he was always with someone. I didn't want to bother him so I don't know if I can say I even met him.

Ha, well that's a great story, and I think you can actually say you met him...he asked you a question and you answered it face-to-face.
