Fuck FB / Meta.

Maybe the "Other Bikes" sub-forum on HawkGTForum gets more populated.

 

I have a horrible feeling the likes of FB and Meta will be very happy to kill off pretty much all specialist websites like this. Over the years a good few people on here have pretty much stopped posting on the forum and switched to the FB equivalent. Ultimately its not about offering participants on FB et al a better way to share/host content, it is all about advertising revenue.

Sad to see VFRD bowing out - there is a lot of knowledge on their site which hopefully the wayback machine will have archived. In the meantime if you are not supporting VFRW as an insider - please consider now is the time to do your bit to help fund the site.

 

I hope it will live on as it's own site, not a Facedork page.

 

Yeah, any time a dedicated forum is raised by a (insert your hobby/passion here) enthusiast, it's usually a matter of time before said person looses interest and become weary in maintaining a website. Of the 4 forums that I used to frequent and that eventually got closed down, only one archived all of it's valuable information for access, and that was for only a limited time period after closing. That's the hard part...the volumes of valuable and mostly well thought out information that's get lost, in a forever sort of way. Kind of like a good neighbor moving away.

I can't get to it, and leaving that window open is clobbering my Google pages and my computer for memory and processing.

 

I can still get to it, but it has an expired certificate. My Chrome gives me a warning, but I can still proceed

 

The site is still available as long as you click through your browser warnings about the loss of security certificate.

Hopefully someone will take the reins off Miguel soon, it's a hell of a resource to lose otherwise.

 

It seems to have gone since 0900 BST/0800GMT. IIRC thtanner was offering to take everything over and said he had the necessary expertise. Anyone know what's going on? Suddenly feel like I've lost a best mate. Guess patience is required.....

I have used both sites over the years but leaned more towards VFRD. Hopefully something keeps it going, it would be quite a loss.

 

Thanks roderage, got it now. Can't seem to get to it on the mobile but it works on the laptop. I really am a luddite with tech!

 

I took the suggestion and joined the F-book VFR site (and got accepted today...yeah!). Holy smokes is it more like the R1 forum than here or VFRdiscussion! I'll try to ride it out for a bit.

 

I am on the FB page but have to say, I am not impressed with it. I see many people posting questions and looking for help and very few of their enquiries are being answered. Or am I missing something there. This sit is far better than the FB page.
