Howdy All, I made a post on VFRD just a couple of days ago, lo and behold they announced yesterday they are shutting down the site... So I'm migrating here because I'm gonna need help!

I'm getting a couple of non-running 1985 VF-700Fs tomorrow, and will be documenting my rebuild journey (and surely asking for lots of help!)

I'm 25 years old and from Central Maine. You can call me Yam.

    I currently ride a 2022 Royal Enfield 350, and hopefully soon a 1985 VF-700F!

Look forward to getting to know you all.

    Best Regards
    Yam

Welcome and good luck. Like I said over there, you'll need a little. Happy to give any advice or insight.

There will be a few to stop by to tell you to run (yes, I already did @ VFRD). It's a normal part of the process when talking about 1st Gen VFs. Once that's out of the way and it's clear you were warned, then things can proceed. Gotta keep the lawyers happy or something like that. ;-)

    Actually, what I said was...

Y'know... I took that personally, I took it as a challenge! And while you are definitely more knowledgeable about VFRs than I am (anyone who has owned own is surely more knowledgeable) I think I'm hardheaded enough to see this project through.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure I'll actually *restore* the bike, but rather get it into good shape, and give it a custom paint job (not the rattle can black that's on the complete bike)

Anyway, I wanted to join a forum as a way to sort of journal my process with the bike, as well as get advice/guidance from you old fellas ;)

Every person to tell me it's not worth it is going to make it that much sweeter at the end!

I hope not, they can't all shut down the same time I get my VFR! (Technically VF...)

    Welcome.
    Its not worth it ;-).

Sourcing parts for old bikes may require some effort and time. My model is operating very well and is used daily. But the day the exhaust dies I can scrap it. I have only mainstream insight about VFs.

I love rebuild threads - especially 70s and 80s bikes - and look forward to follow your journey.
