New parts for the CB-1

Been on the lift so long I have almost rebuilt the 1992 VFR off to the side cuz I didn't want to admit it wasn't happening in a timely manner and take it off the lift. But tonite I said, "It's fucking time, pussy."



Set up the Station of Pain. I have been bad and must be punished...



Wasn't bad coming off, pretty easy.

Friday night work out? I saw the motion pro kit at Cycle Gear. Two rim savers and some tongs. Is that what you are using or do you have a preferred tool.

+1 I calculated the cost of tires and changes up coming. It would be worth it to do my own.

 

I haven't done street tires in a minute, but for my off road stuff getting them back on is easy as hell with a baja no pinch. Just no effort required pretty much. Little spensy, but made in america, fits in a tool bag, and works on the ground or wherever.

 

Here's my tools, pretty much as pictured earlier.



I do pretty much everything with those 3 small irons, I got a couple more somewhere. Sometimes the big guns come out. A stream of WD40 around the bead to remove and some mild soapy water to install.

Don't even remember what tires I bought...

SUCKS when you stand back to admire your work and realize you forgot to balance the damn thing.

I owned and worked on a 1993 Suzuki GSF-400 for years and I can tell you there's a huge difference in the quality between the bits-n-pieces of that bike and the Honda CB-1.

Just one example: the plastic used to form the airbox on the GSF-400 would begin to warp early in the bike's lifespan, becoming up all twisted and hard to keep closed, you would eventually have to purchase big, long zip-ties and zip-tie it securely closed after changing the air filter.

And just look at that CB-1 air filter in your pictures, no warping, it fits together perfectly, looks damn near new after all these years. Yes, Honda quality.

Back when I owned my GSF-400 I always really wanted (dreamed about) a CB-1 instead.

 

CB-1s are awesome. Mine is a sport tourer!

 

Get 4 rim savers if you don't want to damage the paint on the rims. You'll often come to a point at the end where you'll use a third lever to pull the final part of the bead over, and the two other rim savers will already be supporting two levers.

 

Thanks Cap! I think I will get a set and start giving it a go. CB-1 was the beginning of everything for me. They will forever have a place in my heart! A clean example would be nice to have.

Ha! Yep, when I noticed the moving pad wasn't documented on any paper work, it changed ownership.
