Hello - im new here :)

So.. i just had my VFR (rc36-2) 1996 - to the mechanic because it ran a bit weird, and i just asked him to do alot of service and maintenance on it and so he did. He changed all liquids like break liquid, coolant, oil, new oil filter (oem honda filter ofc) he calibrated it and sync the carbs, and it runs really good now compared to before.. but....

i took a trip today in cold weather, 5 degrees, the first trip after it left the mechanic.
after a while i noticed the temp gauge did not move, did not even lift a bit.. so i thought that oh well because of the cold weather. Then i drived for 15-20 min and took a break to take a picture, just let the engine run meanwhile, i went over and the gauge still hasnt moved.. and then suddenly, the fan switched on.......... ?
so ... it was hot... so hot the fan actually switched on.. I guess my temp gauge is not working anymore...

any suggestions ? maybe the mechanic unplugged something ? I also did read a thread on theese forums about a guy with same problem, and he had to take the carbs of or something like that, im afraid my mechanic, that otherwise really have good ratings and good reputation, messed something up

Btw i have no ide why it says im from Seychelles (country) ... im from Denmark, also picked that in my profile :)

He might have unplugged the sender wire doing the maintenance. You will have to take the right mid fairing off to check. Just above and behind some connectors on a bracket is the thermostat housing. There will be a single female connector going to a male post off the sensor on the rear of the housing, and a place where the wire plugs into the harness.

    Here it is from above.

another possibility is a stuck-open thermostat, not at all uncommon.

gauge action can be tested by BRIEFLY touching the wire going to the thermo sensor to ground [key on], which will send the needle full-scale if it's working.

hmm sorry im not the greatest mechanic, yet im not afraid of trying stuff out if im very sure of what to do, but.. if what captain 80's suggest is not the case, you say i could uplug that cable he suggest check if plugged in, and ground it really fast with the key on, and thats just to check if the gauge is actually working or ? Do i ground it by letting it touch just a big chunk of metal or something ? :) I would have asked the frame but it looks like alu and i dont think that is conductive

Also my apologize if my english is not the best, even tough i speak it everyday with the wife is not my native language

yes, the frame is conductive. if al alloy were not conductive, you'd have no wires in your bike.....now that copper is so expensive and fazed out by honda around nineteen ninety.

I freaking love Seaside hotel / badehotellet :D im surprised you knwo about it. We have to wait 2 years for next season tough. And ofc beer, but tbh Carlsberg that may be our most famous beer is a little to watery for me. Its a womans beer. I like my beers strong. If you ever visit please taste "dobbel øl" if you are into beer that gives hair on the chest, it translate to "double beer" and is a very old recipe.

i have not tried anything yet as im a little busy but tomorrow i will, i talked with some guys on a danish VFR forum. One of them was pretty sure it was and air bubble my termostat was caught in, since it happend after new coolant was added. He suggested to remove to radiator cap, start the engine, then the air bubble should go torwards the surface, and after i should refill with a bit of coolant. I will try that before changeing termostat and gauge and all that at least, if it aint just a plug not connected or something

If the gaget worked before the service it's gonna be air or a wire very likely.
