I have an 84 vf700. Did a frame off resto so to speak, have the bike back together and in the process of starting it and letting it get to temp to look for leaks and whatnot. I ran into a no spark issue so I went through the usual test with the stator, rectifier, pulse generators and cdi’s. All tested within spec. The issue I’m having is when I start the bike it doesnt have a noticeable fat blue spark off the electrode but as soon as I let off the start button it flashes normal. Has anyone ran into this issue?

With absolutely nothing concrete to go on, I would make sure your wire harness ground to frame is good. Like not covered in paint or powder coat.

    What's the Battery status?
Any doubts about battery capacity, charge it then have a local auto parts store Load Check it for you.

It is a new battery. I normally keep a trickle charger connected because it has sat a while as I’m trying to get it running.

I will check the wire harness ground. I may have overlooked it.

I don’t see where the harness would ground to the frame. I traced the harness back to where it’s grounded to the negative side of the starter solenoid. As far as a ground to the frame I’m not seeing one. Perhaps that is my issue but I’m not seeing a lone ground dangling in the harness anywhere.

There is one. I'm trying to visualize where it is...

I want to say on the subframe area, like midway point around the Reg/Rect or on it's way back to the CDI boxes and taillight.

I will search the area. I think I know where you’re talking about. I do faintly remember a ground somewhere back there. When I started this rebuild it was about 5 or 6 years ago… so I don’t exactly remember the location of every connection.

I found it earlier today. I followed the harness back to the sub frame and realized the ground wasn’t connected to the frame. Thanks for the pic . Just working on another gremlin but it has a nice spark now.
