So the 86 has no fuel pump. It's gravity feed. I'm missing the strainer in the tank of course. $45 on ebay so trying to avoid that. So I guess I should run a filter but worry about fuel starvation issues talked about in other posts. Does anyone know a good high-flow filter to use? I can use 1/2" or 3/8" line off my petcock and then step it down to 5/16" after the filter to feed the carbs. I know the 1/2" filters are giant. Lots of options on Amazon but I'm pretty new to all this and often do thing five times.
Also, I just got my carbs back from being rebuilt. I didn't have the guts to tackle that. My bike was really messed with. The original fuel system is missing so re-plumbing it all. Now that I have a proper set of carbs, where do I run the 10mm vent to? I was going to put into the bottom of the plenum but then I thought that might 'pull' air through the vent and screw things up. Shouldn't it run to some sort of filter so gunk can't go back in the vent tube? The photo below is not mine. It's just to show which one I'm taking about.
Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You can put a crankcase-type filter on it if you want. but it just points down vented to the atmosphere. There's often a little eyelet bracket that keeps it pointing down.

Here's my 92 VFR with it just tucked behind another vent tube, pointing straight down.

And you're right about not routing it to the plenum, it will often create a slight vacuum and fuck up the carb venting. I see that mistake when people remove emissions crap and connect them to tidy up loose ends.

They are little gems. Such a fun bike... when they are set up nice, tuned properly and maintained.
