Indeed. The VFR750 has been sat at my late mother's house for several months. The plan is to gradually service it in the garage attached to her house whilst getting the house emptied, decorated, and sold. Well, I won't bore you with the ins and outs of the house sale, but I have been getting time in on working on her bit by bit. I've had the radiator off and expansion tank to clean, and today took off the thermostat and housing. The bike has always run towards the top of the temp gauge, and I had pretty much decided that the gauge must be the culprit, as the engine didn't ever seem unduly hot.
Well, how wrong was I? Take a look at the picture. So far I've found one online supplier who says they have an original one in stock, but at £235 or so that's a hell of a lot. Plus I suspect looking at their website, that they are one of those suppliers who list everything complete with price, but only tell you it's not in stock once you've ordered. I may try a rebuild if I can find someone with the correct impeller.
    Oh joy :( IMG_1284.jpeg

    Holy MUDDE!

I think I would take my chances on the best used one I could find.

Yes, that's probably the option I'll take.

Whoa, what kind of coolant was in there? Looks like someone used hose water only. I would pressure hose out the engine to push anything else out, unless some think that is a bad idea. Follow that with some distilled water to rinse out any minerals in the block.
I was amazed at how much water the engine block holds when I cleaned out my block.

I had the correct coolant in there, but the previous owner who had the bike for a number of years, (but hardly did any mileage), well, who knows. He was no mechanic, I doubt the bike had any servicing whilst in his ownership.
I did give the system a flush when I bought it last year, and replaced the hoses with silicone, but this time I'll really go to town on it.
