IMG_2957.jpg I became a first-time VFR 750 owner this past summer. I purchased the bike from a friend who was the original owner. At the time I purchased it from him, it had only 880 miles on it. Yes, that's eight hundred eighty miles! That's why I refer to it as essentially a NOS bike. It wasn't even fully broken in. He had parked it in his climate-controlled garage in 1996 when he married and lost interest. I had known of the bike for over 15 years and would periodically bug him to sell it to me. He finally relented as he was preparing to do a downsize move. $3,000. SCORE! All I had to do was have the carbs cleaned, new tires and new fluids and it's essentially new off the showroom floor. Flawless. Not a scratch, ding, scuff or dent on it. VFR Nirvana. It now has 2,300 miles on it. Out of the 15 bikes I've owned (7 Hondas, 2 Yamahas, 2 BMWs, 3 Harley Davidsons and 1 Kawasaki), it is THE best bike I've experienced. It's simply an engineering masterpiece. Some think I should keep it as a garage queen as it may be one of the finest examples on the planet. Nope! It's going to ridden often but gently for many years to come by yours truly.

Wow Jeff - what a result.

You may want to update your forum profile to include an approximate location (city/state is fine) as you may then find there are other forum members in your vicinity happy to meet up and have a blast along Rossi's Highway or PCH.

So Jeff I see you are considering organising a San Franciso meet up in the summer - You may also want to message Reg71 as he has contacts for many of the West Coast VFR riders, indeed for several years he bravely hosted annual R3 meets for VFR riders which proved very popular. What is certain is you will never find a date which works for everyone so do not try. Just choose a date(s) which works for you, propose a venue, and seek interest. Good luck.

    Dream purchase Jef....wow!

After a season of riding you are still well short of 100 miles per year.
Keep the rubber side down brother Viffer.

Hi Jeff and welcome : ) The bike certainly does look brand new in the pic. I jumped right in because I thought you were saying the bike has a NoS system installed.
From my past experience with purchasing 20 to 25 year old bikes even with uber-low miles, I would just recommend examining all the rubber components on the bike. Even though the bike photographs like new, all the rubber components are 28 years old, and they don't stand the test of time well. Check fork seals, intake boots and coolant / oil hoses, as well as any exposed ball bearing seals. Even though the extended non-use and garage storage of the bike helps a little, it doesn't put the aging and hardening of the rubber on complete hold over such a long period.
Beautiful bike and my favorite Gen of the Interceptors. Keep the shinny side up : )

    That is killer. Nice find.

My 95 with 11K on it when I got it last year needed the whole cooling system gone thru. Every place that had a coolant hose clamped to aluminum was corroded and the o-rings were DONE.

What a find, in California that doesn't surprise me. That state has hordes of garage queens. When I lived in LA back in 1992, I bought an as new 1982 Suzuki GS805G with 514 miles on it. I know what you mean when you say you bought a new old stock bike. Congrats and enjoy your new bike.
