I called my Geico insurance agent to day to inform them that I had upgraded from a 91 to a 98 VFR and I got the surprise of my life when I found out that the rate was the same!! In fact they actually dropped my premium by $100 for being with them for a year. I dropped Progressive last spring when they demanded a twohundred percent increase and I'm glad that I did.

No what they are like when you have a claim, I have no idea as I have never had a claim in 24 years of street riding.

I've got Progressive on 5 bikes

I've got Progressive on 5 bikes. When my wife was hit from behind by a sphincter in a Nissan, Progressive was more than generous with our claim, which was full coverage then.

I'd bet that Geico is good as well, but I've only done 1 motorcycle insurance claim in 38 years. They say that your policy is only as good as your agent.

My cost to insure A Harley FXD full coverage, a SV 650 / Shadow 750 / 95 VFR 750/ VTR 250 liability only is roughly $750.00 per year. Keep in mind the VTR 250 also covers a 16 year old and my wife and I are both a few hundred years old! We find that liability only works for us considering that we've only had 1 claim in 38 years, but my wife is afraid that some scumbo will steal the HD>

That's a lot of coverage for $750 especially with a 16 year old on the policy! I was happy with progressive till I moved to Chicago and then they jacked it up fo rno apparent reason. I hope Geico is just as good or rather, I would rather never find out if they are good.

    Chicago explains it.

I have had others scoff when I say it, but I ride/drive all over N.America, and Chicago is the only city that scares the crap out of me when I drive or ride.

I've been here a year now and I have yet to find a "fun" road to ride. I prefer to keep the solid steel of my pilot around me. I have only ridden the bike to work a few times as it just ain't fun. Wisconsin looks intriguing though.

Shite! Welcome to the people's republic of taxachusetts! Neither Progressive or Geico will set foot in this state. That's why we have a few hundred "Insurance Comission" employees to set state rates - so that our insurance is in the top 5 in the nation.
Remove competition from a free-market economy, and the consumer gets screwed. Gee - I don't sound bitter no do I?
Lots of great roads down the coast here - but if you haven't had the pleasure of riding through Boston during this age of "the big dig" - you have not truly been in hell.

    Geico just came to NJ a little while ago. I was getting different prices for different bikes. All I have to say is Wow!! I have no idea how they come up with these prices. Just as an example;
    All Full Coverage
    2004 FZ1000 $1123
    2003 SV1000S $986
    2005 vfr800 $1585
    2005 919 $ 1475
They said they have a formula they go by, I was trying to make a point on some bikes that they are not race rep bikes and they are naked, run of the mill bikes. The guy said he knows because he has a CBR 1000RR and pays up the ying yang but can't do a thing.
I said screw it and Stayed with my 00 vfr for $428 full coverage. There is no way I can afford those prices. The companies really have you by the @@^@#. Only three companies are in NJ, there are smaller ones but they just write the insurance to Underriders(SP) I had State Farm they where the best but you have to have a car with them so when I decided to save money with Geico for my cars there goes the bike. It all washes out in the end.

    Insurance after a crash

I just have a parking lot fenderbender in my car (and at fault). Both the car and VFR are insured with Geico and I'm worried, could the car accident cause trouble when the VFR come up for renewal?

I switched to State Farm because they insure motorcycles based on the displacement. Progressive quoted my $2000+ a year where SF quoted me $200 or so every 6 months. (I just remember it was so much less that I don't even pay attention to the bill) Of course, it's a multi-vehicle policy so that helps, too.

I have been with State Farm for years and have everything I own with them. Right now 2 cars, 2 bikes, and house full of crap. Full coverage on everything and then some and my bill is about $150 a month. The bill comes strait out of my checking account, so I dont even feel it.

SF's game is - give them everything and they will cut you a break.

About 6 - 8 months ago I went from State Farm on my house and bike to Geico, had Travelers on the cars. Geico was significantly cheaper on everything. House ins was cut in a little more than half. Bike went down, but then back up when I dropped the FJR and added the VFR. The VFR was more expensive than the FJR, even though the FJR was more money and more power. However the FZ6 I had also bought just for commuting, was the most expensive of the 3. Worth half as much as the FJR, half the dicplacement, about 50% down on both to the VFR, and the most expensive to insure by far??? And no plastic body panels.
Just the driving habits of the average owner/rider.

Since the switch, I have had several car claims with Geico. They were great, but so was travelers.

I just went through the insurance game again to insure my CBR1000RR. Progressive wanter $1300. I went with SF at about $550, but after I got the binder Allstate came back with $110 less. Most of my insurance is with Allstate. I thought $440 for the CBR was a good deal.

    Insurance

I have had farmers for over a year now. Before that I had bike-line. I pay $119 a year full coverage. That is with one speeding ticket on my record. A few days ago I went down. :frown: The damage was not bad but Farmers has been extremely nice. Got my bike into a shop the very next day. Even though I was not hurt they offered to send me to a doctor (free of charge) if I wanted to get a check up. They call me giving me an update every step of the way. They are working directly with my local shop, so I don't have to deal with any paperwork. If someone is looking for a good insurance company that is in expensive, I would fully endorse and recommend Farmers Insurance Group (4Most insurance).

May I ask what Geico quoted per year? I live in Michigan and am 53 years old with a clean record and Progressive quoted $613/yr for an '07 bike VFR which is over twice what I pay for my Victory Vegas with Progressive.
    Thanks,
    George

In Dec 05 Progressive wanted to renew me at $1600+ (Full with 500D, no accidents or tickets) so I switched to Geico's $619 (full with 250D). This dropped to $540 in 06 and now $587. It would have gone to $500 if I hadn't added dumbass coverage (Uninsured/underinsured). I have one at fault for the car that didn't affect my bike policy because the car's with Geico too. Yesterday I called Farmers Insurance Group and was quoted $4013, something the AGENT called outrageous. I told her sending me a customer servey form would be a bad idea and haven't even bothered with Progressive or anyone else.

PS: How in the name of God can one company get $587 and another $4000+???

I insure pretty much everything I own through SafeCo. Significant discounts for doing so. I think that 1 of 2 cars has full coverage (loan), and the other is liability only. Homeowner' sinsurance as well. The VFR is liability only, costs like $45 every other month.

Even then, the jump from an XS400 to the VFR was sticker shock! The XS wa $16 every 2 months! LOL!

can anyone tell me if you can use the actual cc's of your bike instead of what it is called to lower your insurance. A example would be my vfr 800 is only 798 cc's. Insurance is rated on engine displacement so I was just wondering.
