The chelate in the evapo-rust eventually gets used up and it just loses its effectiveness. But it's great because you can use it up until it's done--as you mentioned, it just takes longer. If you really wanted to get all Canadian (Canadi(e)n!?) on it, you could make your own with molasses! Similar reaction--just much slower. I never took more than 24-36 hours with newer product though, so I've got to imagine yours is really spent.

I recently had to dump my 5-gal since it lost it's effectiveness after I ran like... many bikes worth of shit through it. I got lucky and we had a whole bunch more at work and I may have snagged 4 gallons more than were just kinda sitting around.. lol.

Well I got the CBX back together and running and then, disaster struck.

Its got a starter chain rattle. Seems my inspection of the tensioner/chain didnt pickup on the fault. So, now I have to pull the engine again , re split the cases and this time the cams and the crank have to come out to swap in a new chain.

Since cam chains are also weak on these I decided to replace that while im back in there too, in for penny in for a pound right.

I have ordered a new starter tensioner and a cam tensioner parts from CMSNL - $400
I have ordered a new Cam Chain and a new Starter Chain from Tony Galea Cam Chain Service in the UK -$200
I have ordered another Gasket kit from EBAY - $200

Im gonna put the CBX750 aside until the ZX7 and the CB900 are done and by that time, ill have renewed my motivation (I hope).

I was happy when it fired up so easily but immediately gutted when I heard the chain clatter.

See it all unfold here, skip ahead to 15:00 to hear/see the joy followed by gut wrench. time stamp 23:00 for the analysis of the issue

I made myself feel better the next day by buying this:

only has 4k on it, 2014 Valkyrie. I sold my VFR800 to my Brother, and im selling a few others (Z1000, CBR125R Repsol, Buell XB9R maybe more), so they will pay for this beast.

Sorry Stray, I just did a cam removal on one of my cars (Toyota Matrix XRS) to replace the VVT cam gear because of noise.

Took several days and a ton of blood (not kidding). Started it up and it started making the same Toyota Death Rattle. I feel your pain.

I quit for now. Hang in there!

Hi Jim, I feel your pain

Sad thing is, a CBX expert told me to replace the chain and tensioner while I was in there, and being a thrifty kind of chap , I decided my inspection of the tensioner was sufficient, and I deemed it "OK". Well I was wrong. I was penny wise and pound foolish.

I watched your vid the other day and kept waiting thinking "What is his little disaster going to be? That bike looks gorgeous, and it fired right up.". Damn man. Gutted for you.

I'm glad to see the M109R not on the "to go" list. If it does end up there, take a few breathes, walk away for a while, and then cross it off the list.

LOL, my Son said the same thing !

Im getting over the "gutted " part now, once all the new bits arrive ill feel a bit more motivated. Im gonna do the ZX7 before that maybe the CB900 as well.

Ill pop out one more short video on the CBX later this week before I park it. I just got the tank clear coated over the decals, so at least it will look good while waiting.
