Does anybody know the part number for these threaded brass inserts? They go in plastic posts in the front fairing of 5th gens, to secure down the instrument cluster panel surround at the top. As far as I know, there might only be the two on the entire bike. They aren't shown on the parts image for the Upper Cowl. I'm guessing they came already installed when customers were still able to buy replacement upper cowls. These also aren't the brass inserts with the rubber around them (5MM cowl setting nut, 90111-kw3-003). I know those are used all over the place. Those are shown in the parts drawings.

The knurled texture helps the insert dig into the plastic. There is a target shaped piece that slides in the grooves. Presumably when these inserts are new that target piece is closer to the collared end. As you thread in a fastener it pushes the target piece down towards the end, spreading the knurled brass outwards into the plastic post.

The shank is approximately 6.5 mm measured with my digital calipers.

I was able to make the insert threads clean enough for a faster not to cross thread again by chasing down a 5mm-0.80 thread tap, but I'd still like to source new if I can. I found some different looking products on google, but none that are this insert specifically.

Wow, nice find. Those look identical. I'd rather deal with a stateside supplier if possible though.

McMaster-Carr has something that's basically the same thing. https://www.mcmaster.com/94510A250/

I just used rivnuts, cut off the lip and epoxied them in. The originals on my RVF were basically destroyed. The fastener had corrosion welded itself to the insert, due to being disimilar metals and the previous owner had just spun all 4 of them and wrecked the posts. This is a solution for an extreme case.
