This question is basically what's called "troll bait" and typically leads to winless arguments since they are based on subjective opinions.

Both models are great and will serve you well. Buy the one YOU LIKE that is in the best condition for the lowest price.

I should have been more clear in my question........can i expect the same handling and power from either model.........if i was that impressed with a 20 year old bike, i would imagine i will be blown away with newer......is it just a cosmetic factor or is there really a big difference seperated by 1 year in handling and performance.....keep in mind i ride with alot of cruiser guys so i was always the odd man out anyway..........

Keep us informed on your decision, is the 2000 in mint condition? Try to get him to let it go for $4500.00 and it would be a smoking deal...

$4500 with some accessories would be even better still!

Seriously, ask him if he has anything else laying around for the bike. You'd be surprised at what may be offered.

A 2k VFR with 8k mi for $4500 is not bad at all. I got my 2k last Nov. for a little less, but it had a little over 20k when I bought it (ummm just realized my VFR has a BDay this month - need to get something for it). I previously only owned crusiers so my VFR is my first Sportbike. Love the bike and the only thing I would say is get the RR/Battery/Stator checked and you should be good to go (general speaking - the RR is the VFR's achilles heel). The RR was the only problem I have had with my school bus Yellow VFR. I was lucky because the guy I bought the bike from gave me the spare RR he had just in case it went bad (he gave me the modified OEM RR). Also I gotta admit I was not big on the Yellow color of the bike, but cagers seem to notice me more and women love the Yellow bike. I like it because it is a VFR and it is mine. Definately ask the seller if he has anything for the bike he can include in the deal. I also got the rear seat cowl, a double bubble Zero Gravity windscreen, the Owners manual and both keys with the key punchout. Post a pic if you decide to buy it. Red is a fast color but Yellow gets the girls - lol.

Exhaust: big plus high mount shows off the SSSA
Mirrors: fake carbon fiber aka carbon look mirrors
Extra cowl: a plus but I wonder why he has one????
Underseat trunk: probably a taillocker. Great idea but guy went out of biz. I had one on my first 4gen and the latch was faulty allowing it to open on big bumps. I stopped storing things in it.
hugger: keeps rear end especially the shock cleaner, looks cool
security system: a plus if installed right

What is the condition of the plastics? Yeller was only made one year so used fairings in great condition are very rare and new ones are, well.......

All the plastic and paint are near perfect, did not ask why he has an extra seat cowl, did find 1 scrape on the header pipe...he said it got laid over in his garage but not while riding, security system looks clean but that doesn't mean much, does come with a new R/R, apparently it has already been replaced once so he got a spare just in case, says he has a corbin seat for it but it is not included ( he wants 225.0 extra for the seat ) removed the rear pegs but does come with the bike....so i guess that answers the question about the passinger, yes fake mirrors, and the locker has a hole rubbed in it from the rear tire...........tires about 1/2 tread left on them and i dont know what kind of mileage to expect out of a set of brakes..so i am already occuring an expense if i buy it...............:frown:

Have you gone and looked at the bike? 8000 miles - if its as claimed it should be fine. Have him throw in the Corbin - youll want it. You will also probly want to ditch that under seat trunk thingy.
Take a more experience buddy with you and maybe get a test ride - make sure it goes strait.

Thanks guys for all the advise, this bike belongs to a Marine whom was killed in Iraq last year and has not been riddin in almost 3, his brother is the person i am dealing with so the info is somewhat limited to the bike, i have seen the bike up close and even did ride it for a few minuets ( did not abuse it though ) it seemed to be pretty tight....then again i am basing that off the old 87 vfr750, so am not really comparing apples to apples.......
