It is amazing what you learn here
In the process of educating myself on what needs to be do to my latest project( 1999 VFR800 ), I found out that
I can use aftermarket parts like All Balls tapered steering bearings and aftermarket brake pads are fine and quality wheel bearings like SKF , but I should stick with the OEM fork seals and dust boots
What about the forks bushings , is the aftermarket as good as OEM?
Are there other parts a person should stay away from the aftermarket?
    Thanks any help guys.

I installed All Balls fork bushings and seals for a fork rebuild. That bike then saw a few thousand miles leak free before it moved on. I have All Balls 56-132, 38-6090 on the shelf for when I need them. My hunch about getting good results is that it depends more on cleanliness and attention to detail during the install, than OEM vs aftermarket. Protecting the oil seal when sliding it over the end of the fork for example. OEM fork seals are easily double the cost of the All Balls kits.

My VFR consumables are Hi-Flo oil filters, Mobil 1, JT sprockets, RK chain, generic H4 car headlight bulbs (bend the tabs), EBC hh brake pads.

I'll go to Honda for specialty fasteners, engine oil seals, master cylinder pistons and seals etc.. I'd be inclined to go OEM or SKF for wheel bearings.

As to avoid, I would never eBay a battery or rectifier regulator. I run Rick's motorsport VFR HotShot rectifiers. They bolt right up. I've done thousands of miles without issue there. I also have one of their stator coils on the shelf.

My 2 cents. If you do anything, change the R/R to a Roadster Cycle kit. Jack is a great guy and his parts are top notch real Japanese stuff.

I have a Ricks stator with 800 miles from new and it’s now bad. Fortunately I found a low mileage OEM Stator on eBay. Also make sure to add a volt meter. Roadster Cycle has a light that works fine. I have a meter and light.

Also, Ron Ayer’s Honda in North Carolina has some good prices on OEM parts. Bought a ton of stuff from them.
