okay, I just went out and got her nice and hot!
the three stator wires are measuring -180mV!!
they jump around but it is roughly -180.
    Negative and in millivolts !!!

haven't pulled the cover yet, but that doesn't seem right?

    not doin it right.

measure AC volts on 250-500 volt scale. between each pair of yeller wires should see about 8 volts at idle & 55 @ 5000 rpm.

when hot check each yeller wire resistance to GROUND, should b e infinite.

measure the batt. on this setting it says 13V AC!

stator test must be done without plug to r/r connected, right ?

I had the same issue about 6 years ago. Its the battery.

It had the volts but no amps. When you hit the starter your voltage drop is too high. Also once it gets below about 10.6v the injectors will not fire, so no hope of starting.

Trace that back to the regulator and run the red straight to the battery..... I always thought it dumb to run it through the starter relay.....

If you've done a Roadster cycle regulator upgrade, that harness goes direct.

I have the similar thing but not always, maybe once in a while while it is super hot outside.

New battery, starting cold every time. When it is very hot and engine is really hot, the starter motor would drag/spinning slow or stop then countinue... like there is some electrical resistance. Cleaned all the grounds, wires, connectors etc... Cleaned and inspected starter motor.
It is better now but still can happen sometimes.

Something gets heat soaked. Doubt it is starter clutch.
But if I keep this bike, I would change starter motor brushes with holder, inspect starter clutch (springs, rollers, bolts), wires at starter relay/starter relay etc...

    I doubt it would help.
I guess motorcycle didn't produced to get heat soaked in the first place, so there must be some problem with something. Starter motor, relays, wires, battery...

I don't know if you saw above, but mine was the block on the starter solenoid was a little burnt!
Just cleaned those up and the bike charges good now!!
Although it is ALOT cooler out now!!!
I am going to change out that whole connecter and pray that it all works fine next summer?

    Didn't see, sorry.

Mine pink connector is slightly melted, but slightly and that was probably at previous owners when R/R died and then he changed the R/R plus removed the connector form R/R and wires are going straight to to R/R (connector was the weak point).

I doubt that that pink connector is the culprit, cuz I cleaned it like every other connector on the bike. And I doubt it would fire like 20 times in a row when it is hot, but once in a while the starter will going slow/drag then fire. Must be something else.
