The only other place where coolant and oil come close is at the water pump. A failed pump seal could be allowing coolant to enter the crankcase.

That seems to be the more likely option.

I haven’t had the plugs out in years, they’re all fouled. I’m not sure if the coolant getting into the cylinders could have caused that. If I saw that before this happened its running way to rich. The 1 &3 plugs look a little wet, 2 & 4 are dry. I’d assume it’s the rear head gasket. I’ll do that one first.

I also picked up a ball valve to put after the air inlet on the smoke machine. Now I can see how long the water passage will hold pressure. I also got an OTC leak down tester. Maybe not necessary, but I need a new toy.

TOE CUTTER thanks for the offer, but I don’t think the bike or I would make it to California. I cut my toe once, tried to use crazy glue and glued my toes together.

One Question. Do I need new exhaust gaskets? Since I never took off a VFR head before and they’re copper can I reuse them? It’s not like I can go to the Honda dealer and get them, or can I?

you could reuse exhaust gaskets, but best to order new. let us see what you come up with for a head gasket, not easy to find.

    post photos of the plugs.

I got everything off eBay. I got 2 head gaskets, 2 water pipe gaskets and the last 3 exhaust gaskets from a seller. If I have to do the other head, I’ll get another one.

The OTG leakdown tester stopped working. It worked for the first cylinder then started leaking from the hose after the first use. Anything over 30 psi and air coming from the spark plug opening. I even changed the O-ring. It’s going back. I thought a name brand kit would work better. The gauges weren’t even straight, bad quality.

The addition of a ball valve on the smoke machine worked below are the numbers…
    10psi – Start
    9 psi – 34sec
    8psi – 1m 14s
    7psi – 2min
    6psi – 2m 49
    5psi – 3m52s
    4psi – 4m57s
    3psi – 6m25s
    2psi – 8min
    1psi – 10min
    0psi – 12m30s

Below are pics of the plugs. I guess I’ll have the parts late next week.
