Hopefully I've posted this in the right section, apologies if not. Also apologies in advance if this is an obvious answer and I'm being dense.

I've booked my first track day at Mallory on the 29th (complete novice class :)). I plan on getting a track bike soon but for this and maybe the next one I'm going to use the VFR. One of the main things I need to sort is a brake lever guard. I've had a bit of a look but can't find any specific to the fifth gen only generic possibles. Are the generic ones ok to use? If they are ok does anyone know what the internal bar diameter is because there are two different universal guards? Is there anything I need to be aware of when fitting?

Any helpful advice in general for a first time track day novice also very welcome.

    Thank you

Having just finished my first track day a few weeks ago, also in the novice group, my opinion is that you should not need the guard. At no time in the seven - twenty minute sessions did I get close to another bike even when passing or being passed.

Even in the advanced group, I woud think that you would have space to pass and be passed. It's a track day not a race day.

This is my impression here in the eastern U.S.. It may be different elseware.

Ah you got the first one under your belt. How was it? Will you do more?

Unfortunately in the UK it is now a requirement for the some organisations, including the one I've signed up to. I'd happily not buy one but I don't seem to have a choice. The big snag I've got is that I don't know the internal diameter of the fifth gen bars. I want to buy a guard from gbracing but they have a number of different generic options depending on handle bar.
