^^ Good attitude is half the battle. I scored my free moto lift and a smokin deal on a tandem trailer ($150) for these reasons.

Went back and forth with the owner again. Seems like a reasonable guy. Heading out on vacation for 2 weeks so won't be able to close this out right now.

I seriously doubt it will be gone by then but if it is, Oh Well.....there will be another one.

It's complicated.....There were originally (2) bikes on the listing, it has gone all over the place on price. It also has been for sale for a while.

Not much market for these down here it seems.

The bike is not moving so I am thinking $800 is what I will offer in person.

I think i am dealing with a reasonable person so hopefully it goes well.

Couple of things to keep in mind when considering purchase of a Used bike.

    1) CLEAR TITLE Is the bike titled in the name of the seller? If NOT how do you know the bike is not stolen. I can tell you HORROR stories of not confirming title is clear. If you want to take the chance on a bike titled in someone else's name other than the seller's you are ROLLING THE DICE.

    2) CHECK COMPRESSION MANY bikes have been sold with low / no compression in one or multiple cylinders. JUst because it TURNS OVER doesn't mean it does have good compression. CHECK IT before moving ahead.

Check these things and you will avoid going to jail (possession of stolen property) or buying a Paperweight (check compression).

    Best of luck.

good idea but as u know. checking compression on that bike pretty much requires removal of the radiator to access front plugs.

Good advice all...but unfortunately compression checks are a little tough to do when buying old junkers like this. I have bought no compression bikes before, I just rebuild them. Part of the torture of buying them LOL!

As for the stolen bike, I always run the VIN before I even go out to see the bike. If they won;t provide the VIN I won't even go see it.

And YES...I have been involved with a stolen bike before. I had no idea it was stolen when I got it (pre-internet days) and it took some 'splaining at the Police Dept to get my ass out of that sling! It has not happened since.

It "Ran When Parked" but fuel tank is wasted now and carbs likely need a total overhaul.

It's weird but I almost DON;T want to try and run it because if it fires off, he will think it is worth more. I can get it running later.

Several years ago I bought my 5th Gen VFR way cheap because it did not run. I had it going in about 1 hour after getting it home!

^^ my ST proj bike was the same way. The seller was nervous and wanted out because it started to overheat. Knowing what I know now (and then) through the Hawk forum I was explaining to my better half that it could be several things but as long as the oil was still oil, it was most likely an easy fix. Sure enough, he was short on coolant and it just needed a new rad cap.
Fingers crossed this works out. Anymore I just go with the flow. Nothing is worth my stress anymore. :)

There will be others to look at!
