I want to upgrade the mirrors on my 1998 for the 2000/2001 ones to get rid of the rubber covers. I've seen somewhere that it has been done before with a slight modification of the bracket - 1998 has 5cm between bolts 2000/2001 4cm gap. Can anyone help with details/photos please?
I'm sure I can rig something but want it to look good too! Thank you in advance! Should mention I'm in the UK

Hi I have a 1999 VFR 800 and the 2000 mirrors (without the rubber covers) fit straight on

My 1999 has 2000/01 style mirrors installed. No modifications were done. EMGO makes a decently priced copy of the 2000/2001 mirrors. You can find them on Amazon and eBay.

It's been loooonnnggg ago, but I purchased OEM 2000 mirrors, and they bolt right on, no mods required.

I've been using EMGO's '00-'01 mirrors on my '99 for three years and are still perfect.

EMGO OEM Replacement Mirror for 00-01 Honda VFR800FI Left Side Black (20-37342)
EMGO OEM Replacement Mirror for 00-01 Honda VFR800FI Right Side Black (20-37341)

As others said, no modifications required.

Thanks everyone, returning the ones I bought and reordering emgo ones. Ebay listing says US fitment, anyone know if there is a difference? I definitely need a 50mm gap between bolt holes (centre to centre)....

They also bolt right on to 1990 - 1997 VFRs.

50mm center to center on my '99 with Emgo mirrors, you're good.

Just a little add-on to this. The EMGO mirrors don't come with any mounting hardware. The 00-01 mirrors use different bolts and isolator base than the 98-99 "condom" mirrors do. So in addition to the parts tirso listed for the mirrors, you'll also want to order the 00-01 mounting hardware. These are HONDA part numbers:

    Mirror base, rubber - 88113-MBG-D00 - quantity 2
    Bolt, socket (6X16) - 96600-06016-07 - quantity 4

Thats right. Forgot to mention the rubber base and bolts.
Though, I did not use the Honda bolts. From my local hadware store, I purchased button cap 6x20 bolts then painted them black.

I know this thread is old but a word of caution to anyone googling mirror replacements: The 00-01 style EMGO mirrors don't fold which for me makes them utterly useless and a waste of money.

The bolt is so tight that I'm just distorting the metal trying to loosen it and yes the size hex key is correct. Pulling in the mirrors when they're attached to the bike feels like I'll snap the cowl rather than fold the mirrors.
