    HiHo-

Time to replace the original plug wires on my '86 VF1000R. I'd like to keep the factory coils if possible but also
curious to find out if anyone has replaced their factory coils with something that fits nicely under the tank and has
standard plug wire connections. But mostly wondering if those small pieces on the coil side of the plug wires are
available anywhere or (haven't looked too closely yet) the old ones can be moved to new plug wires, making it a lot
easier to create a new set of wires and snap 'em in place.

    thanks in advance-
    B

I have replaced the wires on a couple 1000Rs, the fitting pieces can be moved over. The NGK wire I use is SLIGHTLY smaller than the factory wires, so when I assemble I use a tiny bit of black sealant when I compress the pieces back together. No issues.

Honda coils are pretty damn resilient. If they aren't cracked, they are likely just fine. Accel coils will fit in the stock location with some adapters. One of the VF750F parts bikes I bought had an Accel kit with adapters, but they can be fabbed pretty damn easy. VF750F is essentially the exact same configuration as a 1000 under the tank.

So I had a new set of Dyna Mini coils sitting around and noticed they were 3 ohms as are my VFR coils. In the interest of making things easier
in the future, decided to fab a bracket and wire in the Dyna coils. Surprised to notice that the factory VFR coil terminals are not marked with
+ or - indicators. I guess the PLUS side is the one with the Black/White wire since there is one of these on each coil but hate to assume anything.
I've seen car guys connect the writes backwards. Still runs but the performance is dismal.

Bl/w comes out of the kill switch on the right handlebar switch, which is solid black on the way in. And the solid black comes from the fuse box from Fuse 5 (Ignition / Fuel / Start / Charge)

Yup I noticed that too. Turns out there's no way to tuck them in nicely although I don't know how HIGH they could be mounted
before hitting the tank underside. Went back to the original plan.

Hope the rest of the week is good & thanks again!
