Yup fun stuff, I couldn't manage to get the starter clutch assembly off either as it did not come off with a cordless impact or a 18" breaker bar. Might have to bring it to my garage and hit it with the air impact and some wd.

On a positive note I got the cover gasket, a proper starter motor, and the new starter clutch coming in the mail. So I got 2-4 weeks to get the sucker off.

So one of the original issues I was having is the front brake handle locking up. I originally thought it was a stuck caliper but when I bleed it I get the brakes back for a few days. I'm leaning towards it being some sort of issue with the brake lines as the master cylinder works just fine off the bike. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm shooting in the dark.

The tiny "bleed hole" under the little hood thingy down in the bottom of the m/c is likely blocked.

It's possible your brakes lines are falling apart on the inside, but I highly doubt it. Doesn't mean they couldn't be replaced tho.

By "locking up" do you mean that the handle cannot be squeezed, or that it does not return? Because if either is the case your problem is likely the master needing to be rebuilt.

It cannot be squeezed. then works completely fine after I bleed it. Locks up again after a few days.
Yeah I'm split between it being bad lines or the master, probably going to try captain 80's recommendation then pull my master and try it off the bike.

They are easy, just need the right circlip pliers. I will almost guarantee its the tiny bleed hole. Classic symptoms, but it will only do it on a bled, closed system. Testing "off the bike" will tell you nothing.

You might not need a rebuild kit. Usually complete disassembly, cleaning and reassembly is fine unless it's a complete shit show on a high mile bike.

But this might be the perfect time to upgrade the 30+ year old brake lines.

I agree clean that wee hole first, and see if your symptom is gone. Would seem to be a blockage for the return if the brakes stay on when you release the lever.

it's important not to overfill the reservoir and to leave some air space above the fluid level.

Had time to get the starter clutch off today, I would say it's pretty messed. Still waiting on the replacement in the mail, Jesus ebay takes a while [IMG]

So I'm in the middle of putting the new starter clutch back together and noticed the rollers don't quite sit the same. Tried playing with it and it's always like this. Is this how it's supposed to sit? [IMG]
