    Dear All,

I would like to replace my Nikko high-mount muffler with another sports muffler that I ran into. I'm not terribly clumsy, but I can't seem to get the linkpipe off the collector. Sprayed several times with IMAL, tapped it with a screwdriver and hammer, but alas. He seems to be coming a little, but not enough. And yes, the screw is loose.

Any other tips before the whole neighborhood ends up in a madhouse because of me banging the hammer? Thanks!

Put a blob of grease into each of the top groves. In the next step it will melt down to a light runny oil and act like easing oil. Pen' oil will just burn off.
Take a blowtorch and apply heat only to the outer metal. Do it all the way around if you can.
You probably want to use several layers of plumbers heat mats/pads to avoid scorching the surrounding plastics and tyre.

The section in direct heat will expand before the cooler inner metal. Be quick, because during that period where the inner is still much cooler you should be able to get the outer section to shift.

If you are worried about collateral damager to the surrounding areas there are some electric induction tools that allow you to apply heat precisely without the excess heat hitting the surroundings from a blow torch. You may be able to hire one from a tool hire shop in your area.

It worked. With two guys. It was like giving birth and cost a lot of sweat. But he came off with a lot of patience and physical strength!
