Nothing wrong with bragging about a well made product that has served you well. The older made in USA Redwings are awesome boots! I still have a 10 year old pair that are going strong and as comfortable as some of my sneakers. I expect them to last another 10. However, I hear that the quality has been going down recently and that the newer versions (within the last 5-7 years) have issues. Some reviews online seem to reflect this.

What about a tall boot that has the protection but you could also walk around in comfortably?

Daytona's are comfortable out of the box and I can walk around in my Road Star GTX's with no issues. Check out the link and find the one that meets your needs for tall.

Seems like it's a very popular boot. Most places are sold out.

Depends on what you mean by walking around but I went down in a mine in Falun in Sweden in my smx plus without any issues. They're a bit on the squeaky side though

Something that would be comfortable for when I take breaks to hit up a diner or visit relatives and not have to bring a change in footwear.

I have a pair of Icons. I don't recall the name, but they're the beefier mid-tops, less stylish sort. They're good, but old. I'm a big fan of Icon gear, especially the less shouty "I am ICON!!!" items..

I'd recommend a really nice pair of inserts for anything you choose.

These work a treat ... even if they don't have ALL the ankle protection that "true" riding boots do.

Z Custom boots that are about 15 yo. Would buy again, but they no longer make boots.
Got some stitching on the shifter toe replaced recently and a resole.
Yesterday cleaned and lubed zippers, one was wanting to come open below the pull.
    It certainly operates easier now.
If I need a new pair later will probably go custom again.
    Most comfortable footwear ever.
