I'm new to the VFR, so hopefully, this is nothing but normal.

I hear a ticking noise from the lower half of my engine once it's a bit warm. I've tried to locate the origin of the sound, and it seems to be the bottom end. its a ticking like I would usually associate with tappet noise.

My bike is 98 with 13,000 KM on the clock. I've heard these engines are all but bulletproof, but still, I just wonder if this is normal or not?

The cam issues seem to be limited to the 1st gens, and the noise they make is in the top end. Does the noise change when the clutch is pulled in?

Was going to agree as it was with mine with my Aftermarket exhaust with dodgy clamp but see from the " Rtech " Gallery he has a standard end can so unlikely unless he has a hole in the headers.

I have what seems to be the same "ticking" noise on my '98 and only 11K miles on the clock. It only happens at idle though. Give a little throttle and it goes away. I'm pretty sure it's not exhaust since it goes away with higher rpm. I was hoping other VFRs do the same thing as I was a little concerned too. I can't really tell where it is coming from though. I have really only listened for it with the fairings on. Any other ideas?

    Sorry for the late reply!

No exhaust leak for sure. So that's ruled out. Like okiengr, I hear it only at idle. And I can't pinpoint where the sound is really coming from!

I plan to strip the fairings off this weekend and take a closer look. Hopefully its nothing but normal.

Mine has the little tick at idle too. I'd leave the farings alone and go for a ride this weekend instead.
