Had a fun ride out with my oldest friend, who got me into bikes in the first place back in 1981. He had a low-speed drop a few months back on gravel that resulted in his bike and gear being replaced under insurance, and today was the first day back on two wheels with a shiny new Aprilia Tuono and all new gear. While he was still running-in was a perfect time to demoralise him with my 35-year old "Superbike". The VFR acquitted itself very well and maintained a nice comfy pace on a few of my favourite local twisties. IMG_2524.jpg IMG_2530.jpg

    Old is cool,
Not a fan of these modern angular cut machines
Not many nice looking bikes these days, but the VF/VFR is timeless

    VF1000F2F, now rideable,

LOL, yea, it is. Im a big Ant fan. I did a few of those paintings in the 80's and they're on the wall now, I have a nice framed autographed stage play list from Lloyd Cole and the Commotions too (if you have ever heard of them). That corner of the shop is the music area, guitars, amp's and my stereo system. Tunes are always rockin' in the shop. Apologies to the OP for the hijack.

Hijack away mate! I'm a big fan of New-Wave post-punk too, Shriekback is my favourite, and still making great music.

Another painting day today, pulled off the clutch cover, filled and sanded some roadrash and then repainted using VHT Gloss Black engine enamel. Pretty happy with the result. I used some Permatex ColdWeld epoxy to fill the gouges.

Whilst in there I replaced the rollers and springs in the starter clutch because it had made some very unhappy sounds back when the engine wouldn't start/run right (although its been fine since the carbs and ignition have been sorted). No visible wear and just the springs seemed somewhat shorter than the new ones. Thanks to Captain80s for confirming this operation could be done on the sidestand without dropping the oil out.

I also repainted the bars, masters and triples using Duplicolor Stratos Silver, which sort of matches the original paint as far as I can tell.
    IMG_2542.jpg
As part of that process I completely stripped the masters and the clutch slave, really surprised at how unworn these parts were, I am starting to think a PO has lavished some love on the bike in the not too distant past with maybe all new hydraulic seals.

Now to move onto the wheels...I have some new and quite decent looking Chinese front discs in hand as the existing ones are right on min thickness, and I'm waiting on some EBC HH pads and new caliper seals to complete the front brake overhaul.

    Great job!

Im liking Sratos. Is it a certain car brand color, or generic? Dont remember seeing it, I use Duplicolor a lot.

No idea sorry; the Duplicolor range does seem to be country specific. I picked this based on the web image, as we are still not allowed to shop in store. My first pick was a Gunmetal Metallic which was just too dark.

Hah! Yeah, just a little browsing before I turned off the light.

OK, thanks. I think I have found pretty much the same color before, but that looks sweet. I'll keep an eye open for it still.

    Again, looks great!

The painter's mantra is prep, prep and more prep. I repeat that to myself, and still manage to mess things up. Amazing what you can't see in sanded form that sticks out like dog balls when the primer goes on...I had to re-do part of the clutch cover and the triple clamp to get them looking half-decent. And they probably look better in the photos than real life, so don't be too hard on yourself.
