    Hi folks,

Not to flog a dead horse here but I've a specific question when it comes to charging issues.

Got a new Stator and RR about 1000 miles ago, been running fine until today.

First coldish/wet day of the year, and the bike had been outside my office for 9 hours.

Went to start it and I lifted my thumb off the bottom just before it got into a good idle.

Attempt 2 was spot on, I'm not too worried as she often needs that 2nd one to tick over.

But my clock which has been perfect since the repair jumped to 1am.
Is a reset clock always a sign of a charging issue or can it just happen by itself?

    Cheers

How old is your battery? I have been experiencing the same thing and noted my battery voltage was hanging around 11.8 to 12.0 volts. This one is three years old and I am replacing it with an Interstate CYTX12-BS

The resetting clock is a sign of very low voltage during cranking, which means the battery is struggling to delliver enough amps at that point, so most likely an early indicator of battery failure.

    Thanks Terry,

I've a voltmeter integrated into my USB charger. It's reading 12.2v with the ignition on which I thought was reasonably healthy.

I can't check it running at the moment as it's late where I am but I'll check the running volts tomorrow if I can.

I maybe naive but I think had I cranked it a touch longer the first time would've started just fine But I pushed the button again straight after releasing it, so hopefully it maybe just a bit too much load and not enough time to recover before I cycled it again.

The battery and charging system were all changed together but the bike was stuck in a workshop because of lockdown for 4 months without a trickle charger which probably didn't do the batter health much good.

If it were I ........ I would remove the battery, trickle charge it over night, then have it Load Tested.

A battery at rest can show proper votage even with a bad cell. But under a load (like when the starter is engaged) the voltage will drop like a rock.

a tickle charge is just milliamps, better to use a real charger, 1 or 1 1/2 amps for about 4-6 hours.

If your battery is reading 12.2 at rest its kaput. A healthy battery should read 12.8. Swap it now before you get stranded or all you electrics fry.
