i just don't see any of tiki's evidence that leftists were anti-vax; that was the stupid trump puppets. decent people were sick of trump's megalomania, egoism, narcissism, meanness, and hyper-nationalism, and that's why so many voted to get rid of him, slap him down and put him in his place.

unsuccessful presidential assassin john hinckley is being released from custody, and i hope he knows where to find trump.

I think Trump was the first to say he would produce a vaccine within a year, and then the pols and talking heads said it was impossible and if he had a part in it they wouldn't take it.

Thats how I remember it happening... and I don't have any sides in this

Agreed that LATER (into current) you start to see the Republicans against the vaccine & associated restrictions. But it was the Democrats who lead that initial charge.

I think I will put more stock in the opinions of virologist, disease experts and 99.9% of the medical community before the opinions on the internet. Have they gotten some things wrong? of coarse. We are in uncharted waters but I want a captain that has sailed on the high seas and not one that has played with his rubber ducky in the bath tub. It seems like there are a million opinions of what to do, many defending their "logic" as common sense without really having a clue what very complicated and evolving circumstances require to address fixing the problems. But they did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. lol

I'm saying it's hard to say who politicizes anything first because everything seems political now. As far as the vaccine goes, I think the sources you look at spun things to look like the 'left' was railing against the vaccine, but I'm telling you I didn't see that type of thing in the newspaper or the regular news channels. Certainly not to the point where I would say they are all saying they aren't taking any vaccine. (Except in the case where that sentence ends with unless it's been tested or something similar).

Even when you searched for these things that are supposedly easy to find, the seemed rather benign statements. Certainly nothing that would lead me to think they are refusing to take a vaccine. The only way I could see that statement causing that extreme a reaction is cherry picking pieces of it and putting it on autoplay until they (whichever media) convinced you of such.

I suppose that it possible. Like if he said he made a vaccine in under a year and to just trust him, but I really don't remember him saying that. I do not remember anyone saying they wouldn't take a vaccine that scientists have tested and approved until well into this year when it became available to the public. I took it in Jan 2021 and I think I was pretty early in the timeline of when regular folks could get it.

Suicide & addiction are not infectious diseases that can be transmitted to another person while you're sitting on a bus, subway, eating a meal at a restaurant or bar, gathering of multiple people such as funerals, religious services, even just having a child playing with other kids in the park.

Triage is the prioritization of treatment during medical emergencies.
Pandemic is the the priority when a disease that can be spread with droplets in public spaces.

I know of a family has been vigilant through COVID for over 18 months; only the father (fully vaccinated) drove 8 hours by himself to attend one funeral in 18 months, comes home then gets his child (too young to be vaccinated) infected & hospitalized, likely from an unvaccinated funeral attendee.

Psychological damages will have to take second when you don't know who might give you the infection that can kill you or your family.
    Wouldn't you agree?

thanks for sharing, that was a great article. I’m glad he brought up the rarely-mentioned obesity topic. What a missed opportunity we’ve had to encourage Americans to get healthy! I’m down more than 20lbs with intermittent fasting and loads of physical activity. BMI below 30 again!

Yeah, I started that intermittent fasting up again. I was down really well with it back when Terri first left me, but the depression set in and I drank my way back to obesity. I'm working on it again with using eating windows and exercising, but I'm doing it very gradually hoping that small changes over a longer period will stick with me better. I'm at 32 on my BMI, but more importantly I'm just starting to be able to go down a waist size. I almost threw out all my old pants when I was really feeling sorry for myself, but my cheap streak won out so I have older smaller clothes that I can use.

p.s. I ate salad twice yesterday and I wasn't hungry when I woke up so maybe it's working. :)

I did too. I had a piece of iceberg lettuce in one fork stab and a piece of radish on another.

I can’t agree, but thanks for asking. I won’t trade your grandparents or mine, or even my own life risking suicide and the well-being of my child. We’ll have to disagree on that one and move on.

Thanks for the video. The people there are much more accepting of getting the vaccine, over 70% now, not fighting with each other helped to get shots in arms. Now they are opening back up fully.
Sweden has suffered many times more COVID-19 deaths per capita than its Nordic neighbors, which opted for tighter curbs during the initial waves of the pandemic, but less than many larger European countries that employed hard lockdowns. Sweden would probably be even more ahead of the game if they did what Norway did. The people of Sweden take this seriously and do the right thing out of personal responsibility, people here in America love to be confrontational and selfish to a much larger degree. The culture itself there is vastly different. I have traveled the world pretty extensively for many decades working and can spot an "ugly American" a mile off. Don't get me wrong, I love our country and do believe we are the greatest nation on the planet but there are there some real ass hats that come from here too. The governor of my state Fl is fighting with our school boards and also suing the White house. The US is so tribal and divided right now. The selling of souls is in full swing. We have not been the "United" States since really WW2.

I heard that Jon Stewart has a new show and he is trying to dig in to more serious topics. Supposedly he will take one thing each show and try and do an analysis. (Didn't that British guy with the large nose already do that same thing on HBO, though?)

This is true. However, time will tell whether the tradeoffs were worth the “savings”. I have a hard time understanding how people on a motorcycle forum don’t understand risk tradeoffs. If zero deaths is your goal then why do you ride? Do you folks arguing for less risks even ride?

I think that different US presidents could have done a better job bringing more people together.

I also love Gov DeSantis. He makes me want to move to Florida and suffer high humidity.

I think I can answer that question.

If we as riders make mistakes or have an error in judgement, or do something that ends up in us getting hurt or killed, other than the sorrow felt by our friends and families, and in the case of a fatality, the cost of the subsequent fatality investigation to the tax payer, we have virtually no affect on the general public. Whereas a person who refuses to get vaccinated has the potential of serious affects on the general public, unless he/she takes extraordinary measures to prevent his/her spreading of COVID if they become infected. Furthermore, when someone gets badly effected by covid, they require intensive health care and are taxing our medical facilities everywhere to differing degrees. That is tying up critical medical people and care beds which might otherwise go towards surgeries needed to preserve life threatened by such ailments as heart disease, cancer and others, or improve quality of life for those of us who choose to get vaccinated. It is also being reported that it is also seriously affecting the mental health of the health care workers we rely upon to help us when what we can do for ourselves, simply is not enough. Healthcare professionals are getting burned out to an alarming degree, many considering leaving the profession, when what we need, is more of them.

Having said that, I do support right to choose. Just so long as those who do choose to not be vaccinated, do take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread. I just don't agree with many peoples decisions and rational.

Why do you say the "unvaccinated" need to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread when the vaccinated can still catch and pass it on. Just look at cats anecdote above about the fully vaccinated father.

I did not say the vaccinated could not get infected. I understand they can, and yes, they too can spread it. But look at the odds involved here today. The percentage of people becoming infected today drastically increase in numbers for those who are not vaccinated vs those who are. Especially when you consider the tens of millions who are vaccinated vs the far smaller number who are not. If vaccination made no difference in the spreading of this virus, then the numbers getting infected on both sides would be representative of the % of people vaxed or non vaxed.

but when you ride, it’s not just your actions that put you at risk. Any car at any moment could pull a left hand turn in front of you. Or someone on their phone could rear end you at an intersection.

It’s far too much risk when all you have to do is drive a car to be much safer from your own mistakes and the poor choices of others. Motorcycles should just be banned. Imagine all the needless hospital resources your accident could consume that other people need!

Agreed to a point. Ad I am one of those type 2 diabetics. But diabetes can be managed very well without the need of intervention in the hospital. I have been in the hospital but nothing to do with diabetes. We don't know what the cause was that resulted in a few of my hospital stays. The ailments were not a mystery, just the cause.

The thing is. With this covid, there is a very easy solution to the vast majority of the spread and suffering. Very simple. A vaccination or precautions to prevent the spread of it if you happen to be infected. That goes for the vaxers who become infected too. And we know that it happens. Just no where near as much as for those who are not vaccinated.

But I guess this argument will travel the same path as your pro/anti gun debate. I do not see any pro vaxer convincing an anti vaxer or visa versa. I just hope we make our way through this sooner rather than later.
