Los Angeles to Spokane

So 1400 miles on a 31 year old motorcycle!

 

What will you do on the 2nd day? Ride back? lol... Have a great trip..

How did you happen to pick Spokompton as a destination? (Spoklahoma, Spokanada, Spokanistan)?

Just wanted to stroll among the Spokandinistas?

 

My kids all live there.

Wow that is an impressive mountain of luggage - OK nowhere near as mad as can be seen daily in streets of Hanoi but it may need some repacking to make it really secure.

Certainly it makes me glad my 6th and 8th Gen VFRs came with complete factory luggage allowing everything needed for a long weekend trip to packed away safely inside and all the heavy stuff to be carried low down in the panniers with minimal effect on the ride even at 200+kph.

So if you find that luggage mountain proves a bit of a beast on your Spokane trip, for the future you might consider buying some cheap throw over saddle bag to carry the heaviest stuff. If necessary you can always raise them clear of the exhaust by threading a piece of wood over the rear seat and through the panniers. When it comes to stability - low and wide is usually better that tall and narrow. It is also a good idea to overdo the tie downs and don't forget to check your bungee straps every now and then. Otherwise as Scubalong knows, one of his sleeping bags went walkabouts when we were riding somewhere down in Baja.

On trips to the Isle of Man with the 6th Gen I was lucky as my tent and tent poles were exactly the same width as the panniers, so could be neatly secured with bungee straps to the pillion seat with nothing sticking out either side, but the 8th Gen panniers are narrower so it looks like I need to get the saw out to fit additional joints into the longest poles

I had a bungee-corded sleeping bag slide off the back of my '86 30-something years ago on a moto-camping trip. The bungee pulled the bag against the rear wheel which sucked the sleeping back up to wedge between the tire and frame. Locked up the rear wheel and killed the engine. Long slide down to about 30 mph, then a high-side. Broken scaphoid on the throttle wrist.
