    When I was on long tours, I would very often hang my feet over the rear passenger pegs for a while to stretch out the legs. So I would suggest keeping the whole foot pegs back there. If nothing else, throw those puppies in a drawer somewhere and don't throw them out until you have moved them at least 10 times to another location in your shop. Then they can go.
