    Hi, I tried doing a search for this but nothing really gave me a solid answer. What color options where there for the 5th gen bikes broken out by year?

    There's a dealer selling a black 98 VFR with chrome rims... is black even a stock color for 98's? I was under the impression that 98 & 99 VFR's were only red. How about the chrome rims... aftermarket?

    If they are five spoke rims, they are probably just stock rims that have been chromed.

    As for the colors, check the wiki site. i think its wiki.vfrworld.com or something like that.

    98-99=red
    2000=YELLOW
    2001=red
    That's it for American bikes. Other colors available in other countries.
    The wheels were all black.

    Black may be a color that was offered overseas or in Canada or Mexico. Or it may have been painted.

    So it's almost guaranteed that this bike has been painted. I somewhat like the idea of the bike being a different color, but at the same time it makes me nervous that the paint was to cover something up.

    This is what the bike looks like, do the wheels look stock?:

    I was going to head down this Saturday to see the bike in person. Do you guys think it's worth my time going to this dealer (about 100 miles away from me) to see the bike for $3999?

    I really like it in black, and the chrome rims look great. It was probably just repainted to look better, but you never know.

    No stock motorcycle that I have seen (that cost under 50k) has come with chrome or polished aluminum. They are aftermarket, or were chromed. I always think the same thing, when a bike is painted, I always think it was wrecked. Many times though, just a small lowside only damages the plastic and not much else. Look for telltale signs of scraped engine cases, swingarm, forks, exhaust, etc...

    FYI, other colors (black, blue, and green) were offered in Canada I believe.

    I think it would be worth looking at it. From the blurry pic it looks like it is a halfway decent paint job. The wheels were prolly chromed-over stock. Like stuka said, look real close at the engine cases, look for cracks or parts of the plastic that did not get painted right. Ask them to take the seat off, you can tell alot by the inside of the plastic...poor paint job, plastic weld, painted over cracks...
    Good Luck

    I do not see any stock Honda decals on the bike in the photo. paint job.

    ...and if the wheels are truly chromed, watch them for cracks.

    If you are curious whether the bike was repainted or is a canadian model check the VIN. Canada models for 98-99 start with JH which is different than the american. It also could have been low sided as mentioned earlier. Mine has a clean title and I saw the repair list, which was all superficial yet my bike was repainted by the previousl owner anyways...

    Howdy all; Not sure what year but, believe some of the 5th gens came stock in silver and my favorite is the red and silver anniversary model . I believe both the colors that
    I mentioned were only available in Europe ,Australia and Canada. eddie

    I think there is a myriad of options to go for as replacement fairing colors. I’ve seen the ‘Repsol’ color scheme. I just searched for it and is available. Oh, and I was not the owner that put a ridiculous gray triangle that stretches from the lower front fairing to the rear of the gas tank on my bike. Some other a-hole did that.

    If I woke up tomorrow morning, went downstairs to the garage, and my US model '00 suddenly changed to Pearl Conifer Green, I think I would be pretty darn happy.
