Hi gang , im getting fed up with this bike ! I went for a ride after work and about 5 miles in 3rd gear went AWOL. No noises or odd feeling just disappeared. So anyway long story cut short. . got my replacement engine finally in and all the electrics connected , decided to throw it over without fuel to prove it spins and get some pressure. Giving it 2 second bursts oil light wont extinguish. Tried and tried but the damn light wont go out. Headers are not fitted yet nor are the radiators and swingarm. Can the pressure switch be swapped without removing the tbs ? When I crank it I can see the oil level drop in the glass. Any thoughts ?

Had to go out to start mine to see if the oil light went out when spun over...... Here is what I found.

Spun over without "choke" for a 3 second span, then hit the starter again to double check. It started and was running sub 1200 RPM till I shut it down after 10 seconds.

The oil light stayed on for the first 3 second crank, it even stayed on after the engine started for a couple of seconds.

You may not have any problems at all.

Thanks for your reply, im gonna have another look this weekend with a charged battery and hope the oil pressure light goes out after cranking it for longer.
Im just disappointed my 3rd gear went awol after 6 years of great times together plus after nearly a month swapping the engine only for it to be kaput. Ive got 3 months warranty on it but dont want to pull it after all this work. Will keep you updated

With a charged battery I cranked the hell out of it in short 3 second bursts and the oil light eventually went out. Topped the oil off in the window and the light goes out quickly as it should. Got the bike back together sloshed some fuel in and she fired right up.
Rode around the block a few times and parked up to check coolant levels and for oil leaks. None to report and now have 11 miles of round the block rides to prove ive got everything back together .
Guess the engine was just dry as ive no information on how long its been sitting at the breakers.
Great to be back on the VFR.

I'm glad your fears have been put to rest. It makes sense that the oil pressure warning light takes a moment after the motor is started to go out. The pressure is not instantly high enough for the sensor to stop sending the signal.

Of course it takes a moment to go out , we all know that, its just when youve spent a lot of time and money replacing an engine you really want to see the light go out.
Anyway ive put 40 miles on the new engine and she runs really smooth and sounds sweet. Guess all the messing around with valve clearances and cam timing was worth it. Cheers
