I saw this 2006 model up for sale on FB marketplace about six months ago and pretty much ignored it.I eventually went to see it after a deal on a yellow Ducati 748 fell through. It had been hit from behind while at a stop light according to one of the mechanics I talked to while waiting for the salesman to come and "Supervise" me while i looked it over. vfr.JPG

vfr2.JPG I inspected the things I thought were pertinent; The Frame, swinging arm and the motor. I eyeballed the wheel relationship to the frame and looked for any cracks in paint or aluminum. I did the best I could with the old eyeballs and then made the man an offer he couldn't refuse. I got the bike cheap because it had been sitting there for a long time, but I believed that all the pieces were there for a cool build project.

Wow Peter - that is some project you are taking on.

Even if the bike was rear ended, the front has also taken a huge hit. All of which would make me very wary of spending time and money on trying to fix a bike which is now 16 years old and where there are loads of similar but ready to ride VFRs available at very affordable prices.

On the plus side there were loads of 6th Gens sold so you may still be able to find some used parts. Doubtless you realise Honda made a fair few modifications with this bike from model year 2006 onwards including wiring and brake upgrades so you will need to make sure any replacement parts are from the appropriate variant.

On the minus side is the potential extent of the damage. Before potentially wasting your time on a turkey, you should at the very least very carefully inspect the frame - if the frame is damaged then I suspect all you really have is a spare parts bike.

If you see this is simply a "how hard can it be" project, then I guess the cost v end value is irrelevant - but you should also note that sourcing undamaged fairing panels - especially in a rare colour like black could be a challenge.

Whatever you do decide to do - Have fun.

Thank you for the advice... I did inspect the frame and the motor was free and shifted through all gears. I got it for a very low price due to the damage so not too much lost there. I always figured if nothing else I could use that awesome single sided swingarm on another project if this didn't work out. The front needs replacement of Forks, brakes, lights etc. I am not looking to rebuild it to original form. I just want a project Naked bike something I can put my own personal style into.

Hey, I purchased an aftermarket fairing kit for my bike, it is for a 2003 and is silver. I did not use the rear cowl. I looked on parts nation, they look very similar but they are different part numbers so I can't guarantee a fit ( hey, it is a Chinese knock off, so no guarantees to begin with anyway ) It's yours for shipping cost if you want it - not sure your plans for the rear.

Thinking about keeping the passenger pegs.... They help with the exhaust mounting, but I don't know. vfr exhaust.JPG

another member(s?) had trimmed off the whole lower section of the passenger peg... ie just kept the upper part that you are using for attachment , which runs parallel to the tail fairing. it looked fine and served the purpose

if you are going to keep the rear pegs then put both on - It always looks wrong if you don't.
