Back in late 2004 I bought a brand new 2003 VFR800FI (non-ABS version). I am the first owner. It had 7 miles on the odometer. I got it from a Harley/Honda/Yamaha dealer in Indiana who had ordered it for a customer, and he changed his mind. So, it sat in their shop for 7 months until they finally put it on eBay, where I found it and bought it. I had it shipped to Arizona. It arrived in mint condition.

Soon after, I went through the typical mad upgrade phase and after visiting Remus' headquarters I ended up working a deal to write their installation documentation for their exhaust system (slip-ons and Y-pipe). I did a nice step-by-step .pdf installation manual with pretty pictures. :) I also got a USB Power Commander and had them create a map for the Remus exhaust on their dyno (no cost to me because they didn't have that setup yet, so I was the guinea pig). It has the O2 bypass sensors as well. I seem to recall the dyno sheet was around 119HP. There are no other mods (like the flapper or snorkel, that is all stock). It does have a K&N air filter (I have two of them for some reason, a spare I guess). It has a Sargent seat, brand new tinted windscreen, and a bunch of brand new parts that are not installed, sitting in boxes (like a real carbon fiber front fender, and other misc. carbon fiber parts) AND I have ALL of the original parts I did replace, still new.

So, where are we going with this? Well, I still have the bike. It has 492 original miles on it. No, that is not a typo! It's a museum piece. It has sat in a climate controlled facility (my workshop) since the first day I got it. About 17 years ago I drained the tank and coolant system, and pulled the battery to prepare it for summer storage (it's 120+ here in the summer, not exactly riding weather). I was expecting to ride it the following season but life got busy and I just really never got around to prepping it to ride it again. I just recently removed the (custom made) cover for the first time in what seems like forever. I pulled the tank and inspected it, and found I missed some fuel... ugh. So, I replaced the entire fuel pump assembly (because the rubber around the fuel filter was cracking), and I cleaned the tank. I also looked at the fuel lines and one had a tiny bit of fuel in it so I pulled the rails and injectors and took them to a professional cleaner and found 2 were perfect, one was 95% and the other was about 60%. After cleaning they are all 100%, and no leaks. It's all back together with all brand new o-rings of course. I had changed the oil on this bike at 50, 100, and 300 miles. I just changed it again. I replaced the DOT 4 brake fluid in clutch and brake lines. It was perfect, but I did it anyways. There is now new coolant. I got a new LiFePO4 light-weight maintenance free battery (those are amazing). It's ready for fuel and to be fired up again, but I have no desire to go ride it at this point in my life. I am a huge fan of the Interceptor family having had VF500F and VFR700 models before this one. Oh, this does still have the original tires which look 100% perfect (being stored in a <5% humidity environment), but I am sure that the manufacturer will say they need replaced. One other thing... the NTSB website shows that this bike has not yet had the front wiring harness replaced under the Honda recall (which is true because the nearest Honda dealership is 150 miles from me, and the recall occurred after the (trailered) trip to Power Commander for the dyno tuning).

I am planning on selling the bike, along with an original 3 piece set of Honda VFR luggage (still new their boxes). This is a neat setup as the luggage carrier frame bolts to existing frame locations and you can just snap in and unsnap the luggage pieces (both sides and the rear) to make the bike look somewhat "normal" when the luggage is not attached.

So, what is this thing worth? Any collector looking for something to throw on their coffee table? ;)

I took a bunch of pictures of the bike before, during, and after I pulled the tank off, injector rails, etc. There is no dust or dirt anywhere because of how it was stored. I will pull the photos from my phone. In the mean time, here are some pictures of it in the Remus exhaust installation manual that I wrote. At that point the bike had just a little over 300 miles on it - I changed the oil when I did the exhaust installation.

Beautiful, thanks for the pics! The bigger challenge is the low prices of the Gen8, they IMO push down the value of the Gen6 even if in stellar condition. :/ GLWS!

Thanks. I wonder if I should just store it for another 20 years? :)

Storing for another 10 won't do it any harm...
