So I've looked everywhere for this and I can't find a real answer and the guys here at the shop aren't 100%.

In the Honda parts catalog, for the 8th gen OEM quickshifter, it says "Shift Assist Program helps to match engine RPM to rear wheel speed when downshifting"

Does that mean it can auto blip as well or is it only an upshift capable device?

Pressing your foot engages a switch that momentarily kills the engine to take the pressure off the gears. Works great. Once in a while I will forget to lift my foot off completely and engine will start to stall! I am not sure if works for downshifting (lifting foot) but will gladly check.

I'm sure that's a typo error regards downshifting. The installation and operation guide clearly states for up shifting use only, downshifting requires normal clutch use.

So, new guy here resurrecting an old post. Never had any type of quick shifter for car or bike, but is it correct that it eliminates the need to use the clutch lever on up-shifts only? And that would obviously mean any gear after 1st from a dead stop I hope. I like using a clutch on a car or bike but this accessory sounds intriguing. I didn't see this option in the OEM VFR800 catalog so probably not even available anymore?

You are correct, on upshifts the ignition is briefly killed to take pressure off the gears during shifting. Mine came with the bike when I bought it used. Might be able to find one on eBay. Consists of replacement linkage with momentary switch in it.

My Yamaha MT-10SP came stock with an up-only QS. I use it only when giving it the beans (it is fabulous for high speed/rev overtakes), at lower revs and lower gears it is a bit clunky. At lower revs the smoothest fastest shifts happen with a dip of clutch and the QS cutting the ignition for an instant. I'm on the fence as to whether the QS is especially useful, but I have been riding with a conventional clutch and gearshift for a long time. A downshift QS might be a different story.
