New guy here. Living in South Western Ontario. I bought my red '99 5th gen back in the late fall of 2015. Learned to ride at 15 on a 100 Kawasaki trail bike. Moved on to a Yamaha RD400, Honda XL500S, Suzuki SV650S, Suzuki SV650N and Yamaha FJR1300.
I read an article about the holy trinity of bikes once and it stated "if you can own two bikes, get a Suzuki SV650 and a Yamaha FJR. If you can only have one, then get a Honda VFR".
Well, here I am with the third part of the trinity, and quite enjoying it.
    Cheers.

    Haven't delinked the brakes.
    Lots of aftermarket goodies though.

    Sargent seat
    Helibars
    Throttlemeister
    Zerogravity windscreen
Mirror extenders (soon to have '00-'01 mirrors)
    Peg lowering blocks
    Elka shock
    Pazzo levers
    Hindle can
Givi Wingrack with Givi side and top cases

I like to go on long distance trips and that Sargent saddle is the best I've ever sat on.
As of this writing, it's got 54,000km on it.

Nice 5th Gen man. I have an 02 (6th Gen) and love it. I've always been told "it doesn't do any one thing great but it does everything well" . I'd say that is a pretty fair assessment.

I remember riding a a very good customer's bike he just brought down from Canada. 99 Yellow I think (98?). We did a new owner "once thru" and I took it for a spin.

Came back, handed him the keys, and said, "That is pretty much the perfect motorcycle."

He never let me forget those word thru his big smile. Love you Peter.

I discovered rather late in life that I love long distance motorcycle trips. My last three bikes (the SV650, FJR1300 and this 5th gen VFR) were / are used primarily for that purpose. A ten day trip down through West Virginia and North Carolina is the highlight of my riding season. That photo was taken in 2019 on Deal's Gap.
This VFR is by far the most comfortable bike I have had so far for that purpose. I attribute that to the Sargent Saddle. Even though it has Helibars, I would prefer an even more upright riding position. But that's nit-picking. I can spend 10 hour days on this bike without a problem. And I'm now in my 60's
The SV is more nimble through the twisties, the FJR is better for two up travel, but this bike is just right. The Goldilocks zone.

I hear you on that. I don't have a lot of experience on other bikes. I have two. A BMW 800GS and my VFR. I bought the GS used just last year and really am not impressed with it.

My VFR I bought brand new in the crate back in 2006. It has served me very well on the many long trips I have made with it. Helirisers and a Sargent seat helped but I made a few trips down to Atascadero Ca, on the stock seat and it was not too bad. Now I have a Rich's Custom seat built for my butt and it is just sooooo comfortable.

I now have over 223,000 km racked up on this VFR, many of those on very long trips. I just had it all repainted a couple months ago and she is a pretty bike all over again. My wife and kids are going to have to sell it after I kick it whenever that happens. BTW. I have 6 years on you...you young rabble riser!
