Went out for a drive this morning and found this in the back of my truck when I got back....

On this forum, you're supposed to say that the VFR is your favorite bike
So is your Africa Twin the DCT or manual?

 

Its a DCT, a 2017 that I bought new last year. took a few km to get used to the DCT, but now I love it.

The VFR800 is an awesome bike for sure, I love it .

My Suzuki M109R is also a great bike.

They're my "trio" of regular riders and all very different, but all great bikes in their own way.

 

Damn you had some awful bad luck there. You better sell that freakin truck.....

Trails looks like fun, but I am so un-coordinated all I managed to do was flip the bike over and over. Of course that was on a OLD Yamaha TY350 which was way more bike than I could handle.

Fun sport for sure, and a really nice bike ya brought home!

 

My '71 GMC collects stray leaves. FUCK.

 

Truth is I wanted a 250 2 stroke instead of the 300 2 stroke, but this was the last 2020 anywhere within a reasonable drive of me, nd was heavily discounted as non-current. The 250's are a lot easier to learn on, so to you point Jim, I need to be careful, a 300cc 2 stoke in a bike that weigh's very little is a potent combo.

 

Happened again... this time a 2008 Shiver 750. On the other side of the coin, the Ducati 748 left for a new home today

 

I like it, but I am still staring at that Africa Twin. I see it has moved since your last photo. I think that might be my next bike.

 

What's that M109 like? I am not even sure I could even get it off the side stand! Beast.

 

Things get moved around all the time as I pull them out to tinker or work on them

If you get one, You'll LOVE it !! I really like the DCT, the biggest part to get used to is no clutch to slip for slow parking lot maneuvers, so you have to learn to drag the rear brake a bit instead.

 

Its incredible Jim. It's a torque monster, comfy, fast, albeit a bit loud with the Freedom pipes. Lots of smiles per mile. She is a big girl, but the COG is low, so not to bad to handle (im only 165lbs and its fine for me). Gets comments every time I stop somewhere, no one knows what it is.

I have always liked these hot rod bikes, like the Yamaha V-Max, Warrior, etc but was afraid I would buy the farm on one!

The Suz just looks right to me. I am sure I could ride it, I have ridden some pretty huge bikes (I DD'd an 81 Honda CBX for a year actually), even did a Gold Wing for a bit.

I hate Harleys but that V-Rod always intrigued me. So many bikes so little time, alas!

 

The Herd:

I went to buy a VROD last year (love the look of them) but it just felt too small after riding the M109R, so I passed on it. The M109 is very very wide, now all the other cruisers feel teeny tiny to me.

 

It's funny you mentioned the VROD because that's what I started thinking about when I googled more info about the M109R. Also, there's a black and yellow M109R I've now been sending pictures of to a few of my friends threatening to purchase one. Holy cow, what a cool looking bike. I really didn't know anything about these. The 116ft-lb of torque is insane.

I've always been partial to the VROD due to some family history involved in the development of the engine. That's about as precise as I can get. Anyway, my dad has a 2005 CVO VROD that's just a wicked bike. I've ridden it a few times over the years, and it's such a weird feeling being on a cruiser like that. Opening up the throttle though, the torque is insane. I'm pretty sure that bike has 120HP/86ft-lb. The M109R with 116ft-lb must just be hilarious. I rented a Harley Breakout once... holy cow what a gutless engine that thing felt like in comparison. Nothing like the VROD.

Not that I'm at a point where I'm realistically looking at buying a cruiser in the next few years, but the VROD was always one I've had my eye on. I need to see and hear one of these M109R's in person. That black and yellow one looks so awesome. I think I might be swaying that way.
