I am new to the site and was hoping to get some ideas on why my 99 is cutting out when it hit bumps in the road. I was out for a little strole today and of the blue the bike shut off on me. It started right back up but everytime I hit even a little bump it felt like I was losing power. I gave it the once over onthe road and nothing glaring was visible. Not sure if this is electrical or fuel related. Does the ECM have a common issue with going bad....any ideas out there. Thank you.

Do a search in this forum on that word "cutting". I had a similar problem 2 years ago and it turned out to be a broken wire on the ECM that was making/breaking. There are plenty of suggestions on what to check.

Check on what the guys above said first - its hard to guess without looking at the bike. I may be totally full of it but check the kickstand cuttoff switch too. The cut off when you hit a bump seems to be a clue to me.

    Good luck,

I disconnected everything that would unplug and plugged it back in. When I took it for a test ride the issue seemed to go away around town. Was out for a jaunt yesteradya and it came back again. A glitch with the turn signal not always working keeps me thinking electrical issue; will the dealer bench test the ECM to see if the issues lies there?

Glad the season is at an end and no the begining. Thanks.

I would check all of the ground wire locations and make sure all the connections are snug. I don't know where they are on a '99 (I have a '94) but it seems like a plausible cause.

Dude check your harness for broken or sharply bent wires. I had the same problem, turned out there was a broken wire right at the harness connector. I posted here about it, but when I was working on the bike I saw it. Start the bike, and jiggle the harness/brain around. Firmly move the wires around. If the bike hiccups a bit, you've found your problem...

I know I probably shouldn't but, at least where I'm from, Deanna is a dudette! Please feel free to flame me if I'm wrong.

I just pulled apart the wiring harness and inspected it alot closer and found two broken wires going into the plug. Looks as though this is the culperate, next question is do I replace the whole harness or just effect repairs? Sounded as though other have had this type of problem before, how did you go about it.

Not knowing exactly where/what the breaks are makes a reply a little tricky but you really do not want to replace the harness if you can help it.

I'd try to get solid continuity back via repair and save the harness for a 10/10th restoration!

Fixed the issue and back on the road, ended up just stripping back some of the wire sheathing and soldering it back together. Many thanks to everyone that helped pin point the issue.
