I have a Deluxe with the Auto Cancelling Turn Signals.

I noticed that when I put them on, they shut off in like 8-9 seconds. This is going in a straight line with no braking. It seems like not matter what I do, turning, going straight etc, its just a 8-9 second timer. I seem to recall when i first got my bike, it behaved different, that it would stay on and then turn off after I had made a turn. Can anyone chime in on their experience? I am trying to figure out if anything is amiss with them. The only thing I have done recently is install a QuickShifter (factory).

    Nope nothing wrong with them.
They will switch off after 120m at speeds of less than 31 mph or if on longer than 7 seconds above 31 mph. Lane changing

    Automatically cancels after a turn.

Simple answer; The turn signals use the ABS signals from the front snd rear wheels, the ECU uses the differences in speed, when there is no difference, they will shut off.

In case you want that auto-cancelling "feature" disabled alltogether : some time ago, I made a youtube video on how to disable the VFR to cancel the indicators itself. A youtube search should bring it up, I hope... My VFR does only switch off my indicators when I want it...

I guess you could tell that I myself don't call this auto-cancelling a "feature", I call it a design bug. An annoying one, to be more specific.

I have actually come to like the Self cancelling feature. But noticed the last couple of days the LHS Indicator no longer cancels for either turns or lane changing. The RHS indicator cancels correctly for both turning and lane changing. Any ideas on where to start looking to fix.

Starting at the conceptual design of the auto-cancelling system below, I would exclude the ABS modulator, as that device is turn-direction-ignorant (and it still works, as the R side still auto-cancels). So I would verify a possibly stuck (LHS) turn signal switch.

To verify the stuck turn signal switch, I'd measure that switch's L and R inputs towards the turn signal relay (see second picture, L and R resp. the Orange and Light-Blue wires, resp. signal 20 and 19). If it's stuck, the electric scheme suggests it remains connected to GND (the green wire, signal 14)

My gut feeling would primarily suspect the turn signal switch being stuck. Only if the turn signal switch would turn out OK would I suspect a faulty turn signal relay.

If you wonder how to access the turn signal relay, you may want to have a look at my video ("shameless promotion", or "useful pointer" ? here it is : )

No problem. After my post, I had thought that a simple test may prove the turn signal switch to be stuck, but I can't do that test myself (as I disabled the auto-cancelling feature myself like I explained in that video of mine) ...

What I thought of, was, that it may be worth to test what happens when you press and hold the turn switch to the R while riding (of course, don't do that when it could confuse other traffic, should this be said). While holding (and not releasing) the turn signal switch fixed in that R position, and covering some 150 meters, if the right indicators auto-cancel, my idea is useless. However, if the right indicators do not auto-cancel, this would be the immediate proof that the turn signal switch is the real suspect (keeps stuck in the L position until the middle position is pressed).

Just some simple idea that would prevent you from basically dismantling your bike from its right fairing panels.

Ah, now thats a good idea Sudolea, removing plastic is never much fun..
Funny thing is last night on the way home LHS was working:Whoo:but nothing worse than an intermittent issue so will still investigate further.

Just for info. You only need to disable the Front wheel speed input to the Turn relay - Pink/Blue wire, no need to cut both.

Didn't know that, but this seems plausible (as the relay works on the difference between both sensors). What I didn't realise when I disabled mine : there's no need at all to cut the wires alltogether... It should've been possible to just remove the pin(s) from the connector without cutting the wire and not even opening the connector (at that time, I thought that I needed to open the connector)...

At this stage it seems to be working fine. I gave the switch a good working over manually. Which makes me think something a bit sticky in there. What would you recommend to lubricate the switch assembly. Inox??

I don't know the internal assembly of the turn switch, so I don't know if contact spray would have a chance to get to clean it's contacts internally. So if it'll help, I can't say. But for sure it won't hurt either ;)
