Gday everyone, Seems like there's alot of differing opiniions about this but here goes. I'm looking at picking up a vfr for recreational riding, no stunts , no balls out speed demon stuff. Just got rid of my less than satisfying Fatboy  and want something more performance oriented. How do all those big ,tough ,RUB's hold there breath so long? Anyhow, I'd like to get some feedback on the best year vfr to look for and this seems like one of the best informed sites around. Any direction would be appreciated. Thanx.

    <--- Generation 4. Hands down.

Hope you like Red. 'Cause it's the fastest color.

I wouldnt consider a non-fuel injected bike ever again, but that's me. That leaves the 5th and 6th. Read any review from 1998 and you'll find the writers believed the 5th gen (1998-2001) was the best VFR yet in every way, take that for what it's worth. I really don't see any advantage with a 6th to justify more money, but again that's just my opinion. Do some searches, this subject has been covered here more times than can be counted.

Hey R.W. nice links. I have a 5th gen VFR so I am slightly biased. I live in NYC and in the winter and even the spring it can be rough on a carburated motorcycle. I am kinda lazy and would like to minimize maintenance as much as I can. A bike with fuel injection is a blessing in the NYC winter and there is just less maintenance with jetting and sync issues. Also I have had other carburated bikes (crusiers/sportsbikes), and have gone through hell with them so never again for me. The main thing I would say is that the 4th gen is a great bike particularly if you want something to do track days with. It is just my opinion, but I feel the 5th gen has a slight edge on its touring capabilities ie LBS upgrade, fule injection, suspension and a few extra ponies. The only other thing I would say is I have had some issues with parts availability for my 5th Gen 2k VFR, and I suspect it is not better for a 4th Gen VFR. This is just my opinion because there are some people who like working on bikes and can deal with jetting and syncing carbs (and also other carb services).
